Rons still in Athens, apparently doing odd job type work so I’m told.
In all honesty he should have a thread on here of his own, I doubt theres anyone whose had problems with a motor in Piraeus thats been fettled by Mr Rivet that would’nt have a story to tell. He got me into the ■■■■ once or twice with dodgy repairs but always seemed to redeem himself when the gas axe & welder were required. Must have been hard work grafting in that heat with an audience full of Amstel bless him!

Sycamore” A few more names of the lads doing Greece when I was, were, Dave Wilson, Alan Piner,Derek Rance,Nick the Greek , Pat Riley, Roger Haywood, Kenny Hooper, Noddy?, Graham Murray, Joe Taylor, Russel Emptage, Ray Emptage, Dave Burlingson, Hamish (RIP) David Hogg, Dave Johnston, Chinky Nev, Roly Long, Dennis Newley, Bill Lorrenti (RIP) Charlie Gethin, Mac Mciver, John Gaskell, Bob Pearson (Wor Bob). There were loads of us on it, I wonder where they all are now?

Hi Flysheet,
Wow! there seems to be a lot going on out there now at the moment. Thats where Gary Glitter was is
nt it? Perhaps Hoggy should have opened a Travel Agency when he shut Anglo Greek eh? Ive never been there, apart from the obvious two items, why is it so popular? You can get those anywhere, and you won
t get better weather than I get here in Brasil.

Er,no .
Glitter in limbo as Thailand refuses him entry
Aug 20, 2008
BANGKOK (AFP) – Thailand declared former glam rocker Gary Glitter “persona non grata” Wednesday and threatened to deport him back to Vietnam, where he has just finished prison time for child ■■■ offences.
The 64-year-old was due to have boarded an overnight flight to London from Bangkok but was still wandering the airport transit lounge more than 16 hours after flying in from Vietnam.
He initially complained of chest pains, refusing to board the Thai Airways plane to the British capital, but it was unclear what would happen next.
A doctor examined him in the transit lounge and said Glitter was suffering from a minor inflammation in his chest, declaring him fit to travel, a medical official at the airport told AFP.
Thailand’s immigration chief said Glitter refused to board the next flight to London but had been declared persona non grata and would not be allowed to enter Thailand.
“We will have to repatriate him back to Vietnam, because he is on our watch list as persona non grata. Thai immigration cannot let him enter,” Lieutenant General Chatchawal Suksomjit told AFP.
The terms of Glitter’s sentence called for his deportation upon his release from jail, and it appeared unlikely Vietnam would allow him to return.
“He could be returned to his homeland since we do not want him here,” said Thailand’s Interpol commander, Colonel Apichat Suriboonya.
Glitter arrived here from Vietnam late Tuesday after spending two years and nine months in jail for committing obscene acts with two girls aged 11 and 12 in the southern resort town of Vung Tau in 2005.
The British embassy in Bangkok said they had offered him consular help but that his fate was up to Thailand.
“It’s a matter for the Thai authorities,” the embassy said in a statement.
Britain has not announced any outstanding charges against the singer once famed for his flamboyant bouffant wigs and silver jumpsuits, but British Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said he should not be allowed to leave if he returns.
“We need to control him, and he will be, once he returns to this country,” Smith told talkSPORT radio.
She said Glitter – real name Paul Francis Gadd – would have to sign a ■■■ offenders’ register and notify authorities if he wants to travel abroad.
“It certainly would be my view that with the sort of record that he’s got, he shouldn’t be travelling anywhere in the world,” she added.
Glitter had several hits in the 1970s including “I’m The Leader Of The Gang (I Am!)” and “Do You Wanna Touch Me?”
The anthemic 1972 hit “Rock and Roll” is still often chanted in British and US sports stadiums.
He was arrested in Britain in 1997 after he took his computer to a repair shop, where ■■■■■■■■ child pornographic material was found on its hard drive. He was sentenced in 1999 to four months in prison, of which he served two.
Keen to avoid the media, Glitter reportedly moved first to Cuba and then Cambodia, where he was expelled in 2002, allegedly for trawling for underage ■■■.
Having settled in Vietnam, where a British newspaper reported he was living with an underage girl, he was arrested at Ho Chi Minh City airport in November 2005 while trying to leave for Thailand.
In March 2006 he was sentenced to three years in prison, the minimum term under Vietnamese law, which was later cut by three months.
The singer maintained his innocence, blamed a media conspiracy and claimed he was teaching the girls English and allowed them to stay overnight because they were scared of ghosts.
Child protection workers called for his deportation back to Britain.
“We don’t feel it’s appropriate he spends his time hopping from one country to the next one while countries decide what to do with him,” said Mark Capaldi, deputy director of Ecpat International, a child protection charity.

Hi Flysheet,
No that was just chucked in for a laugh, it was a question, not a statement. I really wondered why it seems that everybody heads for Thailand. As I said there were apart from the weather only two reasons to go, I thought you can get two of them anywhere, and you can get warm weather in many places in Winter. I just want to know what I`m missing out on. Brasil is fine, this is my first year here though, I came here at the end of November and go back to Portugal ( I have a Campsite Bungalow there, and my car) on 6th, May. Temperatures here are in the low to mid thirties. As a by the by were you doing Greece with Dave then, I may even remember you Cheers mate.

I kinda freaked & wondered what I’d started when I read Harrys post!!! I’m fairly sure those two things you mentioned are avaliable everywhere including here. Yeah I’m at bit at a loss over the Thailand thing it did’nt rock my boat as it goes, it seems well popular with the old greek hands though so maybe I’m a bit young!! The temperature sounds sweet to me over your end I’ve just come down from a wintry Edinburgh & could do with a touch of heat. I know Dave from him living in Glyfada in the early 90’s.

Hi Harry,
Sorry mate, I got it wrong eh?
No big deal Archie, most people get wrong until they visit here. The trouble is that reporters are sent over for an expenses paid holiday & have to come up with something lurid that their editors can sell to the gullibles. Since the reporters have a ball & want get back here they are pretty free & easy with the truth .As a result LOS gets a good old kicking from all quarters. Funny thing is the Thai authorities take it seriously & are desperately trying to improve the image that has been dreamt up by foreign journos .
Don’t get me wrong . There are beasts lurking round here same as everywhere but if the Thais catch 'em they are in the monkey house for some two to one counseling. Maybe the reporters can do a piece about how their 'uman rights are being abused ?
BTW Whats all this got to do with Patras , Piraeus ,Thessoloniki …?
Hi Harry,
Thanks for the reply, it sounds to me like you are there. Whats it like? truthfully, am I missing out on something really good? or is it just a load of P***s****ds amusing themselves? and wishfull thinking. I
m 71 years old now, so Ive got to sow a few more wild oats. At the moment I
m doing absolutely fine in Brasil, but if I can do better, then let me get at it. But I need to get home in May or June so that I can do the Night Trunk for Yorkshire Parcels each night.
I was given the address of this site by Graham Soper, whom I spoke to yesterday. It has been interesting reading about Anglo Greek, as I drove for them also from 1989- 1997, Mac, Paul Rance and another drive whose name escapes me were the drivers for the four trucks that Hoggy was operating at the time. My self and Paul had the Renaults and Mac and the other driver had the Scanias both D reg, D 358/9 FAJ. One of which I was to have as mine later on.
I spoke to Hoggy only a couple of days ago on Skype. He is nicely retired in Crete and it was he who gave me Grahams number.
Nice to see that Mciver is alive and well as well as Roger Hayward.
Regards
John Pettitt
well, well, mr John Petite, how the devil are you, nice to see you about mush,so you bumped into the Soper, poor old sod, he got himself well sorted with that job, i am glad for him, what you up to these days john?.
Well, Mac apparently I am now living quite near to you as Graham said that you lived in Abingdon and I am now living in Emmer Green, just north of Reading.
When I think of you, I cast my mind back to a night in Ancona when we went to Mauro’s bar with Tony Gilliard and he got rat a*sed and wanted to fight with everyone and you were kneeling on the high stool goading him.
I stayed with Anglo Greek till 1997 then I went to the USA and worked for a company in Oklahoma. Visa ran out so came back to Hoggy again, Had a heart attack in 1999, but recovered enough to get my licence back so went to drive for Davies at Southampton. Very nice job, good truck but lousy money, You know how it is. I finally went back to the USA and worked for a company in Missouri on fridge work, mostly ice cream.
Got into serious trouble in California with my heart and had to come home, but being a pensioner , perhaps I should not have been out there in the first place.
I still see Ron the Con every year when I pop down to greece. Hoggy has retired to Crete for a well earned rest.

At a certain time in life you find your niche ,where the weather suits your clothes . I hide out here for the winter these days but being a trucker I get bored stiff anywhere after a few months so I will be heading back to cooler climes next month ,then do it all over again…
Hi Harry,
I`ve been thinking that it may have been you that I was talking to last Summer whilst I was at home. I was in a Wharehouse in Wakefield, I can´t remember the name of the place, it was just over the road from Yorkshire Purchasing Organisation ( a firm we do a lot of work for ) and just a few hundred yards up a dead end road beside Morrisons Fuel Site. I got talking to this chap, he lived half the year in Thailand, I believe he said in Phuket, he said he had a Wife there. Does this ring a bell? or was it somebody else?
archie, warehouse does not have a " h " after the " w ", as its second letter, unlike whorehouse, which has this in common with thailand.
