Just how accurate are these for breaks, with a digi it says 15 so thats it, but I have always been told to “give it a few minutes” with analogue, when I press the break button and start my timer what would you let the timer go to before you were confident that it had registered the full 15 ?
About 15 minutes should do it!
Fifteen minutes.
I know it sounds obvious but every driver I have spoken to has said give it at least two minutes extra
give it about 119 seconds just to make sure
I’m gonna risk 118

If you are just looking at the clock when pulling up and again when setting off then I would give it a minute more but you said you are using a timer. in which case when that shows 15 minutes I would crack on. Same as with a digi, time it from the clock = fail, in all likelihood. Go by the how much break display and good to go.
Paper or digi always give an extra two minutes.

Now I understand why folks spend the weekend in a layby just down the road from a truckstop
15 minutes = 15 minutes
But if you pull up for a and switch it to break and it says 1015, you cant switch it back to work untill 1031. Obvously i know you know this, but i just give it a couple extra to be on the safe side, so i would switch it back at 1032.

If you are on a digi then go by the amount of break display instead of the clock, that way when you want to crack on and get home you don’t need to ■■■■ about with extra minutes.
I’m on a paper chart with digi display type affair, looks abit like a digi tacho but isn’t, dont know what the proper name is for it. Assume you cant do it with them?

No you can’t do it with them. But any analouge is not as accurate as a digi, if you know its been 15 mins you can go, you don;t need any extra mins to make sure with them as they aint that accurate.

I’ve got that sort, a cd player type draw that slides out? I heard they were a stop gap while the digis were being sorted out.
Analogue question; Who makes manual entries on the back for rest periods before and after you finish shift? I do but the few of those I work with still on analogues don’t bother and 'm wondering if I’m wasting my time??
I was allways told to give it 5 minutes more 20mins 35mins 50mins 9hours and 5mins 11hours and 5mins simple
I’m on digi and if I want to crack on then as soon as that display shows 15 mins or 9hrs 1 min i’ll be off!! Obviously after a daily rest period I flick it over to other work to show my walk round checks for 5-10 mins! The law is 15 mins minimum or 9hrs daily rest minimum so that’s what I shall take, no more no less!
But as most of us drivers know tachos dont always record the same time as what the clock show And they will take what is recorded as gosple no matter what a driver may say they wont believe you
i always take an 18, 33 or 47 min break, as i have took it off break before when the display says 15,30,45mins break taken and only 13,28,43 min break has been recorded by the machine, if you change it bang on when it ticks over to say 45 and crack on it seems to only record a 43min break sometimes■■?
