jimmy.

A very good point should of thought of that
Sounds like very good advise I need to sort my self out and arrange a time to vist

I totally agree with Jimmy on this, get yourself over here and have a look around

I was 54, no problem. go for it.

Just had a Skype call with bison transport, went ok just wait and see now

I know a few people on Bison, they’re happy enough, well except for one of them, but he would moan he had too much money if he won the lotto

It’s not for everyone though, you’re just a number there and as soon as you jump out of your truck, there’s someone else in it going down the road. The immigration firm they use is a waste of time, nothing you can’t do yourself and they tie you in to a long deal, so if you don’t like it then it’s not so easy to jump ship.

I would definitely get in touch with a few Bison drivers and find out a lot more before you go with them

ok the UK guys i worked with when i started over here both moved to Bison and from what i was told youre not even a number ,just a truck #…legal o so legal inc post trips .biggest tip i was told was tell your dispatcher at the start how you want to run!,you will be on the circuit… winnipeg south back through toronto ish back to the peg. seems what they do with newbies & the handbomb store deliveries…if you can stick the first yr it gets much easier (both guys told me this).
if gerrys reading this …come on mate spill the beans about Bison!  :unamused:
jimmy

Don’t think they use a immigration firm, was told if accepted they apply for a LMO in my name then I sort the work permit this end an d then come over and start training etc paid when training as well not loads but enough to get by. Will try and find out some more if I can from any one who is willing to tell

Have been offered a position with bison so anymore info would be much appreciated befor I jump ship thanks

A good buddy of mine drives a turnpike for Bison. He seems fairly happy there. They brought him over from the UK about 5 years or so ago, him, his wife, and little lad. He worked for a small, decent firm in the UK (which is how I know him). But now he is all about Safety, Safety, Safety, and Legal, legal, Legal. But if that’s what suits you, go for it. He pretty much got me a job with them, If I want it. I can try and put you in touch with him if you want? Send me your details and I will give him a heads up. Good Luck with whatever you decide.

congratulations!!!
There are a lot worse firms to start with over here …
what depot will you be based?
as said before you will run legal or else ,trucks are fitted wi a proximity alarm ( beeps and sends details back to base and if you get so many ,you will be called in to see matron !).
after i think 18mnths you might be asked if you fancy running doubles.LCVs
you will be fleet 1 or 2 and your dispatcher will change every so often.
as with all v large companies you will do it there way or the highway.
info comes from a friend who drives a biege truck lol…
jimmy.

Congratulations on your job offer Gibbo
In the short time i have been driving here in Canada, those Bison trucks pulling 2 x 53 feet trailers always make my head turn… all the gear looks well maintained and in good condition… err and they are a goldy beige colour… that’s all i know…

Will be based out of Winnipeg depot don’t mind running legal and all would prefer that any way. Only thing now I have just came back from holiday to find out my house sale has fallen though right at the last minute, only a hiccup I know but would of been nice to have that money behind me but with a bit of extra saving and some ot should still be able to get enough money behind me

I wouldn’t worry too much about rushing out there. They will wait for you for as long as it takes. Its better to make sure everything is sorted here before you go. If things go pear shaped in the UK whilst you are out there you could end up in a pickle!     :stuck_out_tongue:

Mate of mine works for Bison, he got a new Cascadia and threw it back because he never liked it, so they gave him a T700, didn’t like that either, so they gave him a Volvo, that had really tall gearing, so he didn’t like that either, so they gave him another Volvo, he likes that, but didn’t like the new Goodyear tyres they put on it, so he threw a hissy fit and they stuck Michelins on it :open_mouth:

Bison are not the little Hitlers they are rumoured to be if my mate’s experiences are anything to go by

Have they given you an idea how long it will take them to get your LMO? It could take anything from 2 weeks up to 3 months, plus your 4 months. It depends on how soon you want to get out there. The sooner you get out there, the sooner you can apply for your pnp etc (6 months in MB). That’s if you like it! :open_mouth:
