For years I have used one of Davy’s Hourguard timers, updating as each new version came out and never had a tacho infringment, I have now started to use a truck with a digi tacho in (have also been using the hourguard alongside it as well so I can keep track of times etc)
The truck is a Scania so has the display on the dash showing current driving time accumulated break time and accumulated driving time.
My week went as follows
Mon… off
Tues…07.38 til 18.14
Wed… 07.15 til 17.06
Thurs… 07.43 til 17.40
Fri… 04.00 til 16.31
Now on Thurs I only drove for about 3hrs 45 mins
Obviously between finishing Thurs and starting Fri I only had a reduced rest (confirmed by Hourguard 9hrs) however as I drove out of the yard the accumulated driving time on the Scania dash said that I had already done 3hrs 45 driving and continued to count up during the day so it totalled something like 14hrs by Fri night.
When I take my card out at the end of each day (unless I am nighting out then I leave it in on rest) I always switch to rest then take it out after a min or two has shown.
Am I doing something wrong? do I need to press something on the tacho to take a reduced rest? I thought it was automatic. This is the second time this has occured (forgot to say the tacho is a Stoneridge) Or are these things just a pain in the backside?
I am guessing I am legal with the hours and rest but just confused why the dash display does not reset itself correctly.
use a stoneridge all the time and havent had a infringement for at least a year so there alright,if your leaving it in,putting tacho to rest[bed]then driving should be back to zero when you start after rest,

Any ideas where i am going wrong?
sorry read it again,i just eject at end of shift dont alter modes and not had a problem
You’re telling us what the vehicle dash says when what’s important is what the tachograph says
I don’t drive a Scania and haven’t driven one for some time so can’t comment on the dash display but generally speaking I’ve found that vehicle dash displays vary from OK to very inaccurate when it comes to driving time.
Stop bothering about what your Hour Guard says and stop bothering about what the dash display says and read the tachograph display, because that’s where the data that is written to your driver card comes from and that’s what an enforcement officer will be looking at if you get stopped

This is exactly what bothers me about your post vwgpmk2, you guess you are legal but if you read what the tachograph says you wouldn’t need to guess.
For your own sake get into the habit of reading the tachograph directly from the VDU not the vehicle dash display
Thanks for the reply, yes i understand what you are saying, I just wondered if anyone had experienced this. The truck is brand new and the boss says it can go back to scania if its faulty.

On the Merc I’ve been driving for the last 4 years, what’s displayed on my dash is simply repeating what’s displayed on my tacho. They both turn over a minute at exactly the same time, as far as I can tell, for time, driving time, break time and everything else. When my tacho starts flashing to say I’ve got 15 minutes driving time left, my dash starts flashing at exactly the same time. They both start flashing together when I get an overspeed warning too. I had simply expected that every other make would do exactly the same, otherwise a tacho readout display on your dash (for ease of use) is a complete waste of time. I haven’t driven any other make since getting this Merc and this is the only digi-tacho vehicle I’ve driven too.

You won’t be prosecuted on what your driving timer says, or what your dash display says. These are irrelevant. What you will be prosecuted on is what your tacho says, so only go by your tacho itself. Unless you know for a fact that what’s displayed on your dash is an exact repeat of what’s displayed on your tacho’, you don’t seem to think it is on yours. I’m quite happy that mine is accurate.
