Remember when on for R Long I got a pull at the peage just outside of Rouen with what the plod thought was a wide load, (load wasn’t out of gauge but with the corner marker boards out it was). After measuring the width and all was well he asked me if I took alcohol to which I replied ‘‘Yes please, what do you have?’’

I used to know someone who took a half bottle of red wine out with him to drink with his lunch. A very civilised way to behave, but probably not very sensible nowadays.

Remember the case where the woman got thrown into a cell by a Wilts police officer, and he was reported for assault?IIRC she was drunk, but sleeping in her car. She had refused to take a breath test because she knew she was drunk and had no intention of driving, but thought she’d be safe in her car ‘sleeping it off’ ?

You would have to seek legal advice as to whether the fact that you were out of hours and your tacho was set to rest would be sufficient evidence to prove you were not intending to drive…BUT…with the keys to the vehicle you could be judged to be ‘in charge’ of the vehicle, and being ‘drunk in charge’ is also an offence although less serious than drunk driving (you can be drunk in charge of a push bike or horse-drawn vehicle). I’m not sure how they would prove you were ‘drunk’: I think they’d have to perform some kind of impairment test on you: a breath test indicates your blood alcohol level and not your level of intoxication.

If you drank on Saturday night to excess, you wouldn’t be worrying about it for monday morning work I’d imagine.
It’s easier though to not drink at all during daily rests unless you know you’re not going to be driving for the 16 hours in question. That means no being buggered about by “bod at the window” who wants you to move for some daft reason like "I want to park my kiosk behind you, and you ain’t left enough space!"

My understanding of it is,if your truck has a bunk,it is classed as your home;as long as you don’t drive over the limit,you’re fine. A rozzer actually told me this but then the majority of them make the rules up to suit themselves or to fit a situation that involves a fine !

Most cidres are 2.6 - 3.1 units per can (at 440ml) and a pint is 568ml… Based on a can though, 10 cidres is more likely around 26 - 30 units, so that’s 26-30hrs officially.
But, those times are based at rest, eating helps, as does exercise, to get alcohol out of your system quicker, that’s why 1 pint or wine with dinner is usually ok - not saying it would be for everyone though, so don’t take that as gospel, but most people would be under the limit doing that.

Yes, that sounds about right - but there are variations according to things like body mass, general metabolism, and of course drinking on an empty stomach. It’s better to err on the side of caution.
I always upheld my own 2 drink limit when driving the next day whether at home or in the cab. I reckon that was pretty safe with 2 cans of tennants on a 9 hour night out. Since i stopped doing nights out, i stopped drinking at all. That is a foolproof option and should keep my licence safe as i am working all the unpopular days over the festive period again this year. We have had guys caught both at work and on their way in. I wont be one of them
