Alberta lmo

I remember that part on the LMO application I filled out in the office at B&D so must be an AB thing but far as i know none of it was ever checked out.

Hi, I’m Louise, Chunk’s wife, I work in B&D Walters and I’m currently dealing with new drivers. We require as much detail on previous employment as possible without gaps. It is nice to see 10 years work history but the one thing we are looking for atm is 4 years Class 1 driving preferably with european experience. We do ask for a copy of driving licenses and passport also a drivers abstract IF possible. The main reason for asking for these is that they are required for LMO applications and if you are offered a job this can be done without delay.
You do require 10 years work history when you eventually apply for PR.

At the moment my application for PR is n process (just paid RPRF last week). Now I’ve applied via the Manitoba PNP route and it was MPNP who required all the documents regarding the 10 year history. On my PR application they did ask for a 10 year history for the wife and I, but it was basically just dates. I think when going for PR via PNP it’s up to the province you apply to, to check work history and the CIC (PR) check your security & medical. As for applying for the LMO, I just needed to show 3 years driving experience, my drivers licence and passport.

All provinces have different rules and these rules seem to constantly change, but I hope this might be helpful to people who are considering Manitoba.

I’ve edited just to add, when applying for my LMO, I didn’t need to have a Class 1 licence (although I did). It said on the LMO to have held a licence to drive a vehicle with 3 axles or more for at least 3 years. This was 2012, so LMO’s may have changed since then.

Thats exactly right, the same thing for New Brunswick. The 10 year work history only needed month/year to month/year of each employment. They liked to see either references or at least a confirmation of employment on company letter headed paper to prove those dates but that wasn’t possible for half of my history and that didn’t affect anything. The LMO is the easy bit, its getting more difficult to get them in NB now with 6 weeks being common but back when I came out and for a few years afterwards, companies could get them by making one phone call and waiting 4 hours and that was it.

My LMO had wording like “Must have a Class 1 driving licence, or equivalent or eligibility to apply for one”. They tried denying me a work permit at the airport because I didn’t have a Canadian issued Class 1 licence, and the guy in line in front of me did get refused because his LMO simply stated “Must have a valid Canadian class 1 driving licence”…I argued the toss for an hour with them, saying my British class 1 was the equivalent and it was my eligibility to apply for a Canadian one, so in the end they backed down and issued my TWP.

I think when receiving your work permit, it all depends on the individual who issues it. If you get a Mary Poppins type person then it’ll be breeze, you get a dictator type person then anything can happen. Lucky for me I got Mary Poppins. lol  Then again I had a Minnesota CDL at the time too, so that may have helped.

That’s the advantage of Alberta. Because of the 1000% turnover at H&R half the people on the flights from the UK are H&R candidates (and over half the people on the flight back are H&R runaways   ) so the only question immigration at Calgary airport asks is if you want a 2 week or 2 month workpermit as hardly anybody sticks around for the full 2 years :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:
