air horns

I am not a man who spends good Tetley vouchers on someones elses truck, having said that I do like the sound of the dual train horn, they sold them in Turkey years ago and they do sort of give you the horn

Normally a friendly fitter will bob them on in his break or they are easy enough to fit if you disconnect or link into the stock horn

get a set of triple horns, also get some spotlights on your roof. orange beacons would also help. then you can call yoursef a trucker. i,ve been working in this 05 plated volvo for the last 3 yrs and i think i,ve never used my horn.

You should be making enough noise with your truck not to need the horn.I hardly ever use the horn except to scare wild life away.

@john_costigan

i know watkins and sole, your only 2 mins around the corner from my firm…=) may bump into you sometime

but back onto the horn debate…well im a trucker who likes trucking and i want them! so nuh! :stuck_out_tongue:

My CF rigid is the same, you blast the horn and it sounds like an effin moped :imp:

From my experience 18 tonn CFs have small horns, while 26 tonners have a proper ones… At least that was the pattern in the places I worked

i fitted a two tone train horn to my dads 2548 actros, his is the long distance cab not the megapsace ! the best way to do it is, under the nearside behind the headlight is remove the crap horn leavin the two wires hanging, fix the train horn to were the little horn was am connect up the wires an then run a pipe usually 6mm pipe from the horn to a ‘t’ piece which is connected to an air supply, i got mine from by the air dryer cartridge in the middle of the chassis so had to run the pipe all the way down, that way the horn will work off the stalk,

hope this helps

My old merc had a gay horn honestly it was embarrassing. You know when you get kids on the side of the road gesting at you to fire the horn, i always pretended to look the other way to kid on i didn’t see them.

My daf has a decent horn, was in a iveco stralis on monday and it has a horn that sounds like a train!

Yeah ive had that a couple of times when I’ve driven an actros
I drive a Stralis now and yes it is a bit like a train horn, I can’t make up my mind about it though I don’t think it’s loud enough. Sounds gay out in the open but in an enclosed area or a tunnel it sounds the nuts.

mike68:
I am correct, the horn is not fitted for you to highlight other road users errors

I thought the horn was to warn others of your presence; aslong as it’s not done excessively, I think a quick note of the horn is justified if someone clearly pulls out on you without looking, as the embarassment towards them might make them think twice next time…

mike68:
The other vehicle may be driven by an elderly person

Why should age be an excuse for not looking where you’re going/poncing along at 35 in a 60mph limit? If they’re driving ability is that bad they shouldn’t be driving, whether they need the car to buy Wethers Originals/go to a day centre/go to the allotment. The only time age should be an excuse to hold up traffic is when the car’s carrying a wooden box…

mike68:
If you do have an issue with other road users pulling out could it be that you are driving too fast and too aggressively?

Not necessarily, the driver pulling out might just be a prick with no roadsense…

Some years ago I had a Scania 112 with two sets of two-tone train horns, operated by a button on the floor where the exhaust brake should have been; rarely used it because it was so loud it would scare the bejesus out of me every time I used it!

Bob

pfft this is what you need
