Advice on Leasing used tractor Unit

Most team trucks are rarely if ever slept in so even double manning wouldn’t be an issue

Would a purchase lease not work out the same or could not get the budget upped a little as what there looking for the what about magnum would that not be an option are you look 4x2 or 6x2

What about ex lease from an auction that would be less than going dealer and if coming off contract hire it should be in fairly good nick
The outlay would be taken off and capital purchase at the end of the year so could work out cost neutral as the limit for capital outlay per year from memory is around 250k

The decision to lease instead of buy is not mine, but from the Directors of the company, mine is not to reason why, I just present them with the information so they can make the decision, I then carry out their wishes.
Although they started out as a racing team, these days the company or more exactly the group of companies is more an engineering operation whose work includes some motorsport related stuff, and there is also plenty of investment going into that side and on things that cost far more than a truck, but that’s the stuff that makes the money.

Just bumped into an MP4 Actros BigSpace on a 13 plate with 370k on the clock for £206 per month on a 3x35 Operating Lease. Mileage limits are 120k p/a which should suit the motorsport alright. Only problem is that its a 6x2 but that would allow your boss to do what he wants with it during the off season rather than having a unit stuck at 40t. If this is the sort of thing you are looking for its at MB North in Barnsley. If I was in a position to put my own on the road now, I would be very tempted.

It would be worth considering, but I’m looking at a full contract hire deal, on a truck that will be either new or nearly new, with a manufactures warranty for not much more than that.
I’d prefer a 4x2 but we are using a 6x2 at the moment, but for me a shorter chassis and larger fuel tanks you get with a 4x2 are more useful than an extra axle.

We have a Restricted O’licence so we can’t take on other work with the trucks, the last team I was with we had a full O’licence and I looked at sub-contracting when it was quiet, but quite frankly with the rates I was offered we would have lost money. We did get into a bit of prestige and classic car movement using our trucks and trailers and being specialist work we actually made a bit of a profit.

Oh the other potential problem is that its a single sleeper, will you be doing a full on F1-esque thing and double manning it to Europe?

Some teams you sleep in the truck, others you don’t, depends on the team. I get the choice, but for many reasons I sleep in the the truck when single manning, but if I am double manning it’s hotels and single rooms.

We have just had 2 6x2 Renault T Ranges returned from a contract on 15 plate with circa 100K on them.

They are extremely tidy, (I should know as I have cleaned them out this week because I am on light duties in the yard due to an accident.) but they have no air kits on as they were used for flat trailer work, and they have a light bar on the roof.
