When you arrive at the port, and are due a 11 off,as you have used up all the 9 off for daily rest periods,do you make it 13 off,to start fresh when you disembark at the other end.
If due a 9 off, then it becomes 11,but i can not see anything in writting about having 13 off, when due 11 off for a ferry with a bunk/couchette.

April 11th 2007
or in your case 1st April maybe
toby you don’t need 2 extra hours off, you just need to add the time of the movements you have made from starting your rest period in the port to when you disembark the ferry but you must add the time to an 11 hour rest period not a 9.
so if you arrive at the port and put it on rest, then drive for 15 minutes to embark, then rest on ferry, then 15 minutes to disembark, the time from you putting it on rest in the port to when you can start again needs to be 11 hours plus the two 15 minutes, ie 11hrs30mins
your two movements can total an hour so you could get off and drive further than the 15 minutes i’ve just described

And all that must fit into the 24-hour period which started when you began the shift which took you to the port.
Start 06:00
Arrive port book on ferry, park, enter end country and start rest by 18:30
21:00 Press ferry option in menu, board ferry - 15 minutes
Set tacho to rest
00:30 Press ferry option in menu, disembark from ferry and park - 15 minutes
Set tacho to rest
06:00 Start next shift and enter begin country
That’s legal.

Start 06:00
Arrive port book on ferry, park, enter end country and start rest by 19:00
21:00 Press ferry option in menu, board ferry - 15 minutes
Set tacho to rest
00:30 Press ferry option in menu, disembark from ferry and park - 15 minutes
Set tacho to rest

That’s not legal as your work and rest was 24.5 hours.
Top of the pops info lads, hopefully that will assist in newbies that are going over the water.

Toby,
Your OP reads that you were asking, but doesn’t this quote mean that you mean that you’ve asked this question in case a newby doesn’t know the answer?
I fixed it for you anyway.
the minimum ferry DR of 11 hours can be taken only if your working day is 13 hours or less ( =24 hours total)----** If the crossing will be over 9 hours and you have time to embark before needing to take yor DR, and if you have a reduced rest available, trat as a normal daily DR . Disembark after setting “begin country” and off you go. Dont need to bother with the ferry DR .**
or if you follow advice above - working day of 12 hours total to allow the max1 hour total accumulated ferry movement time + the min 11 hours rest
If it doesnt fit in total to 24 hours max before you commence next working day you need to take a reduced DR on land as per normal ==you cannot legally take the crossing on a ferry DR . There’s no provision in the regs that allows for a 24 hour plus total working day that I know of.
Start fresh on the next available ferry of next working day.
All duty days of any kind are limited to 24 hours including ferry concession DR’s.

Welcome to the forums
Thanks. …forums like this are so useful to air issues like these.
…you hear so many conflicting theories on just about every ferry crossing about the ferry DR regs Wheelnut. Some drivers I worked with on DHL irish out of newark worked a 15 day in Ireland and back to the dock,- took the 0215 Holyhead on ferry DR, drove off the ship on disembarking ferry mode till the full movement hour clocked up -stopped anywhere from Bangor to Chester services! When at 11 hours total ferry DR time then on the next ‘card’, carried on to Newark swapped trailers drove back to Holyhead and took the 2130 stena back to Dublin on ferry DR. Did it week after week for months. Every one at DHL Newark transport thought they were legal. My oppo and I took a reduced DR on Dublin dock, 0820 Holyhead on next ‘card’ needing a trailer swap at Risley, Manchester to stay legal to get back to Holyhead for the 2130. We were treated with contempt coz they had to ship our trailers out to us every Tuesday turnaround-day. !
