True, I got the statement from the net as it was written in an understandable way to paste on here, I also know what Adblue is and how it is made up, its my job to. However if someone can post a question on this site then they can also Google what they are looking for and get an answer, you don’t have to be an expert for that. I’ve got nothing against sensible questions or queries that’s what forums are for but there’s some belters on here sometimes!

That is true, if someone is bright enough to string a sentence together, they can paste it into google or wikimedia.
However you still need someone to explain the answer

So it’s true it really is pigs waste, so what’s the difference between ours and a pigs ?Where have you got that from! It isn’t anybody or anythings waste, Urea isn’t Urine. No more daft questions please!
Sir +:
It’s been synthetically formulated for a long time, but essentially it’s still a constituent of urine from whatever source.
Always a wise guy, it was just a simple question and it seems it has been answered

yes you can run it on tap water. no problems whatsoever.
i’ve tried it.
You certainly can fill the tank with tap water, won’t do a thing for the emissions though and it may have an effect on the injector eventually. Forget the price of Adblue if the injector needs replacing then it is big bucks, give your vehicle dealership a ring to price the repair or replacement of the injector. Volvo told us it was into four figures! The only service requirement to carry out is to flush the tank out with hot water every annual service to make sure there has been no build up of crystals around the element inside, any blockage to the injector needs to be avoided or it could get expensive.
We aren’t sure if lack of Adblue going through the injector can harm it, like someone said it may need it for lubrication and to avoid soot build up on the nozzle leading to blockage. Can’t tell you much more than that, some might see it as another money making attachment by manufacturers but if the vehicle needs it to comply with the laws then your stumped and remember your vehicle needs to pass the emissions test on mot, it won’t if the Adblue isn’t doing its stuff!
the injector would only ever need cleaning, but a main dealer wouldn’t do this, it’s too cheap.
and they only employ fitters nowadays.
I have had a couple of emails over the past few days about adblue misfuels. Not really sure how it happens but the solutions are different cap and nozzle adapters.
It appears to be a lucrative market

Running a newer truck with a Nox sensor on water instead of ad-blue will result in the engine thinking it has run out of adblue, followed by reducing the power. so when giving advise that will only work on the truck you are driving, try not to generalise.

It’s not pig ■■■■, it’s completely syntheticsigh
I’m told it’s cracked from oil but even if it is then it is still a natural product. Everything on this planet came from this planet.
meteors? moonrock? lol - waiting conspiracy theories now
If you want to know more just google ‘Volvo SCR’ and there are Youtube short films explaining how the SCR system works.

you’re right, they do have a Nox sensor. and the only time i’ve had any slight problems is when i’m at full weight going up a big hill. it will flash up with a warning about the emisions, so i just pull over and let it cool down for a bit. it dosn’t lose any power, and that’s on an scania R500, and a daf 105 510.
the reason i didn’t mention it earlier, is because it so rare that it happens i’d forgot about it.

Slightly digressing:-
I remember from my ‘o’ level chemistry that Urea was the first organic compound to be synthetically formulated. When the Chemistry master asked if anyone knew the formula for it, I blurted out ‘P I 2S’, which amused the class greatly - he left the room for a few moments to compose himself and on his return asked me to keep any comments like that to myself.

How does Adblue work? If I ran out, would my urine be an ppossible temporaty substitute?
if normal ■■■■ worked do you think everybody would waste bottles on the grass verges.
Volvo’s reduce the power by about 15% with no Ad-Blue. I ran out (my fault) in a 460 horse FH12 on Wednesday, with gross weight at around 43 tons. The engine ECU/Lambda sensors didn’t like it, but you can carry on until you can top up, without dipping into your own pockets…
all depends what you have been drinking over the weekend. ( is this guy a muppet or what)
steviebyday:
( is this guy a muppet or what)
why?
just because the government and the big suppliers tell us adblue is what we must use. does that mean that that’s all we can use?
bigr250:
Wheel Nut:
I do not believe that Adblue is Corrosive. (Certainly not classified as such)Not corrosive, but does react over time with certain materials like aluminium.
Wheel Nut:
It is also my belief that a vehicle without Adblue will eventually damage the pump & injector through running dryProbably, which is why when the low level light comes on you could add a little CLEAN water from a CLEAN source, care must be taken not to allow any oil or solid contaminents to get into the ‘add blue’ tank. Youre essentially watering it down a little.
Ross.
Here’s a manufacturer’s MSDS for Adblue:
http://www.adblueonline.co.uk/downloads/msds/air1.pdf
Adblue doesn’t count as dangerous goods, so if it is corrosive at all, it just means that it’s not corrosive enough to be considered for inclusion into the league of (proper) dangerous goods.
