Tennantjon - just out of curiosity seeing as you say not to ■■■■ in the tank but animal ■■■■ is ok could theoretically a pig farmer get one of his pigs to ■■■■ in the tank and drive on?Adblue isn’t my forte
its not actual pig ■■■■ tho. Its a by product of pig ■■■■ called urea, hence why its not a very good idea to take a pee in your AdBlue tank should you run short. And also, and im not being funny here, but if it was real pig pee, could you imagine some poor sod having to follow pigs around all day holding a jar under said pig waiting for it to fill the jar up?. Customers of mine just refer to it as pig ■■■■ because to them its funny.
The stuff we use at work doesn’t smell. Just makes a bloody mess as all the containers we use to top up with leak like sieves

Ah right good job were only allowed to fill em at base then that’s a stroke of bad luck there. I thought ad blue was supposed to smell strongly of ammonia I know the air1 stuff does it brings a tear to your eye it’s that strong
its pig ■■■■
I always try to fill up my adblue at my home dealer because if anything goes wrong and it’s because of the quality of the adblue, I can pin the blame on them and get the work done through warranty. I don’t fancy losing my bonuses because of a 1500 quid adblue pumps naccred itself. It was bad enough when my microwave went and I got another which also went so I had an argument with volvo about not paying them 400 quid because it failed.
It’s fun being a fitter when I’m not driving because I know all the loopholes
Interestingly enough, Kate has me sniffing the Blue & your right the stuff doesn’t smell anymore, when it first came out it definitely stank to high heaven ammonia stylee & would leave white streak marks on the black plastic tanks and your shoes/trousers if you spilled any. Either I’m putting water in from a sealed shell plastic 10 litre today or they’ve changed the composition. I shall keep sniffing other brands although you do get some funny looks.
If it looks & smells like water who’s to wonder how many people are selling water as ad blue?
Over to TNUCK CSI.
It looks like water, doesn’t feel like water if you get it on your hands (feels like a light machine oil) but when it dries on you, your clothing or boots, it crystalizes pretty much instantly.
If you are worried that it might be fake you can test it by spilling it on an electrical component.
If the component never works again, you can be sure it’s AdBlue, not water.
BTW AdBlue is made from synthesised urea, not urine.
Urine has loads of salt in it, so would wreck and SCR unit even quicker than water.

Believe me you’d know if you’d been sold water My lorry is still in the workshop SIX days after the event
Adblue still does leave white streaks if you spill it…however, cos I’m careful and didn’t spill any, I was none the wiser…
note to self… drop some on the floor before inserting nozzle into tank in future
Well, I think this has bought home that all ad blues are not the same quality, buyer beware.
Well I have to say Im not surprised that the original post was going to be a negative one - about this garage. I remember a few years back, they had card cloning incidents at this very garage - cant remember the year. If I recall it was never concluded as the culprits absconded pre trial. Hope that all goes well in getting your truck back running kate.
tennantjon:
The biggest percentage of its contents is the de-min water (same stuff used in auto batteries, this is why it crystallises when it dries).
Rubbish. The crystals are from the urea, not the water and are simply a result of the water evaporating away, leaving the urea behind. The crystals on car battery terminals are sulphate, resulting from a chemical reaction between the sulphuric acid and the metal of the terminals, clamps etc.

Toilets are usually pretty bad too

Thanks for that… although there’s no sign of it yet

I believe so… I understand there are several companies who suffered a similar problem, although possibly not as extensive as ours… I would imagine the garage would then recover the costs from their suppliers…

So what was the out come Kate? Were Ross BP selling water as Ad Blue out the pumps or a bad batch they didn’t know about or was it traced to something else? Do tell, as I’m not buying blue from Ross till proven it’s kosher.

To be honest, I’m not sure… some of our guys have bought off the pump before, without problems… so I’d guess at a bad batch… but how can anybody be sure ■■? We haven’t been told not to buy there again…but I for one wont take the chance…
If I can get some feedback off our FE I’ll be sure to let you know…
I just hope I don’t have any problems tomorrow, or my truck will be piggyback to France
