What’s the solution though? Can’t close motorways on week days or weekends as even more traffic would be affected. Doesn’t seem to be a solution where everyone wins.

Road closures are necessary, I get that. But is it too much to ask that:
Major roads aren’t closed at ridiculously early times (motorways closing at 8pm)
Roadworks don’t overrun by years
If a major road is closed, the alternative major route isn’t also closed
The diversion route doesn’t also have roadworks/closure
Diversions appropriate for HGVs
Correct and useful information on the matrix network
Correct information on the website
A usable website.
This roadworks farce must be costing the haulage industry a fortune, but no one seems to care.
unfortunately none of the above! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Education on the very people WHO USE THE MOTORWAY NETWORK is needed and stop dishing out licences willy billy and taking the easy pound notes.
All fun and games when your running with a 16’ trailer and the diversion just pops ya down Betty’s lane.
Got a right cracker on the A34 south bound Oxford to Abingdon tonight
Road is closed from A474 to Marcham , no signs at A420 saying come off here and use A338 , signs on next roundabout useless no existent
Also looks like once on A338 ,no signs to say don’t head down A415 to Abingdon as you can’t get on to A34 you’ve got to keep going down and come on A34 at Harwell chilton juction
I’m ok as I used to deliver for Currys up here , poor night trunk DD guys
I was doing a DPD night trunk to the Smethwick Interlink depot a few months ago and knew that the M5 was shut so took the M42/M6 route instead. Got past the A41 turning and the traffic ground to a halt. They were in the process of closing the road at the A45 junction but didn’t think to warn anyone further back.
There needs to be a rule that routine maintenance never closes both the motorways in one direction across Birmingham at a time – if the M5 is shut, the M42 north-south remains open and vice versa. Similarly the M42 and M6 east to west. (Yes there are alternatives, like the A46 from Warwick and the old A41/A452 Leamington-Brownhills route, but we have to know about the closure in advance to use these.)

I do wonder how much damage is done to double decker trailers when they are sent down inappropriate roads
Recently the M4 was shut and the traffic was sent from Hungerford to Swindon along the B4192 through Chilton Foliat not a road where i would go. They’ve changed it now to the A4 to Marlborough
I go from Reading to Chepstow every night (yeah I know, lucky old me eh!) and I haven’t missed a bloody closure on any part of that poxy motorway for months! Wait till they start faffing about with all the smart stuff from j11 to M25!!! Oh…and while I’m here, how about the 2 lane closure between 15-14 the other night…matrix said lanes 2 & 3 closed, road signs saying lanes 1 & 2! Works had probably been changed round in the night but nobody had checked the matrix or the signs for correct info!
There is an app called Live Traffic Info (Highways England), it’s got up to date HA information on there, as jobs are booked on the app info is updated, and if you should come across an incident then you can search for the road and it will inform you as to what’s gone on, what lanes are closed, rough estimate of delay time and a vague estimate of clearance time. It does also show pre planned works although not all as some are emergencies.
It’s available on Apple and Android and I find it quite handy being on nights.
