A75 Speed limit!

Well, I’ve got no choice anyway as the truck I drive is limited to 51mph. But I do plan my routes so I don’t mind doing dual carriageways over motorways

just drive her out of the way.if u want to do 40mph u would be best to pull in and let others by ya and when they go to over take u make sure u back her off a bit and let us by safely.also if u have a facebook acc u should add the grenta van man to ur friends list.

A handy wee Facebook page!

cant add much more to everything that’s been said already, but watch yourself at the bridge at dunragit, its low and its on a S bend. its a notorious accident blackspot the only way through it is SLOWLY and cautiously. and the section between Dumfries and annan at night is SPEED TRAP ALLEY

This section has only last week cost me 140quid!

Hi Mark
Sidlaw must have been desperate for that powder or was the hammer down on the way home. Eddie.

Just follow the law and you can keep the 140 quid all to yourself. Why do so many drivers feel the need to ignore the rules, ours is not to wonder why, just to do or die.

You want to break the law and get busted, go for it, just don’t come here and try to drag others down to your level.

It is only a speed trap alley because you choose to ignore the law, for the majority of us it is of no concern. “speed trap alley” is not something that appears in our lexicon.

I am all for changing the law, when a professional driver speeds, an automatic 1,000 pound fine, 12 points and six month ban, that will separate the wheat from the chaff, get rid of the garbage.

Not trying to drag anyone down to my level, or really what it is supposed to mean! :unamused:
Eddie, was on my way back, just basically switched off, sh** happens. Will have to try and meet up in the new year when i`m back up that way.

Aye you can be having a wee think about something and the eyes off the ball so to speak easy done eh. Eddie.

I got tugged 2 weeks ago at creetown. Met the boat traffic coming south so I knew where the “big unmarked car” was. Sure has jaysus the main I passed the car out he comes after me.so before getting the lights I pulled into a laybys.just before giving him my digicard I explained to him about my infringement the week b4. He came back to me 5 mins later and told me I was good to go and the fact that I wrote down my infringement he wouldn’t do me…now this cop seemed the nice young fella so I asked why he pulled me and not the boat traffic.he said he had no reason has they had a safe space between then, weren’t tail gating and not acting the heroes. He said u were on ur own and easy to pull.has he was a nice fellaiI asked him about speed.he said he would comment on that but he said “put it like this, your mates coming off the boat wasn’t sitting under 50 mph but the were driving safely. U were hardly doing over 40 mph”. Have to say this copper never came across that he was out to do truckers and was very friendly towards me.so I gress he in a roundabout way was saying thatsafedu drive safely without driving up the ■■■ of other and a bit of common sense u will b grand…its the hero’s overtaken on bends and lorry’s putting the boat down when another goes to over take that does a lot of harm on that road.

Get used to the road. It’s a fun road, But it’s a bit crazy in certain areas. You won’t get a ticket at 45mph. (that’s the unofficial local plod limit for trucks).
You’ll get to know the areas where you can safely put your foot down.
Pull over for five or ten minutes when you come off the boat if you’re going to take it steady, That way all the cars and mad heads get a head start.
AM channel 19 on that road. If you hear anyone slagging you off, Just say you’ve got 9 points and you’ll let them know when it’s clear to pass.

Fully agree with what u say.there is a few UK company’s that have to do 40 or the would lose their jobs and someone in the office is watching their trackers.I find these lads will pull in and let u pass.

If the Police used zero tolerance on the A75 the ferry service would go bust
With the best part of 100 miles of A road to contend with there would be far more trucks in fields if drivers stuck bang on the speed limits.

And how on earth can a statement like that make sense .

There was a few posts discussing a tolerance of 10% + 2MPH , whether this was hearsay or a Police guideline .
Yet there is a post mentioning that if you cannot do more than 90 KPH then stay clear of the leading pack . 90 KPH / 56 MPH is 40 % over the limit for that road , then a mention is made of a speeding charge for 64 MPH , that is 60 % over the speed limit for the road , or in the case of a car on a 70 MPH motorway exceeding speed limit by same margin equals 112 MPH , & is a licence loser
Which other transport industry would even be discussing percentages of that above their legal limit , air traffic , rail & marine traffic are monitored for the above so why do some drivers seem to think they should not be monitored , especially on this particular road .

I never mentioned anything regarding percentages. All im saying is if all truck drivers on the A75 religiously stuck to 40 mph the whole length it would end up with far more trucks in fields, or worse, than it does now: eg fatigue.

Fatigue or balls too the wind it all ends the same way on the A75… i saw far too many accidents caused by drivers driving like dicks in my 10yrs living next too the A75 and driving on it. .
eg …a truck ends up in a field at the racks rdend (boghead farm—Collin ) reason was a service bus picking folk up etc …so they set up traffic lights during the day…1am ish that night a truck ran into a line o trucks at the lights ,totally obliterating the trucks ,his unit was touching the unit in front!burned the lot out.melted the sofits ,windows in the house opposite.
It was mentioned in the local press the time it had taken from Stranraer …not a lot …but what peed a lot o local drivers off was the attitude of some drivers that the people to blame were the guys stopped at the red light…
#2…A flower carrier from holland (driver from eire) came down the Mouswald banks full bore ,came round the corner and a car was turning right but waiting on traffic …instead off ditching it(to the left) he hit the turning car and pushed it into the trees ,and with the car on fire driver and passenger trapped …he runs off wi his bag up the road :imp: :smiling_imp:
didnt get far though.
i was at this one wae my safety helmet (i was heading home)in the burn throwing water on the car/trapped folk and everyone at the accident said the same thing after the fire brigade arrived its the SPEED that kills folk on this road.its not designed for the amount of traffic local people/farmers use it and the people that travel through the area are not used to dealing with the slower moving traffic .
anyone that knows me knows that i have no time for the police ,but on the 75 they are needed.
