We will probably never find out David, but I believe it will have been for a considerable length of time,it will all have been a case of “a race to the bottom” with prices being continually forced down mainly by the Supermarkets and,of course, goverment departments, councils,NHS etc,who always go for cheapest price, irrespective of quality !
Cheers Dennis.

Lets not forget Tayforth and Scottish BRS
Who used to run the dark blue Marathons that were badged up as AECs, and there was a truck with a “Classic Bike” slogan on his sunvisor in big letters, again a Marathon, and another guy in a Archbold (I think) Fiat artic with “The Bunnet” in big letters on his visor, and the bright orange Bryce DAF 2800s, one with “big Jim” on the front, you saw these guys every day up there in the early 80s.

I did meet probably the last MD of Scottish BRS at a “do” in London in the early 90’s,we had a few Drams to-gether in Nestles suite in the Hilton on Park Lane !! IIRC the MD of Seafields was there as well and he was Scots as well, those two could really put the amber nectar away, especially when it was someone elses drink !! “Bottoms up,Cheerio”,they had hollow legs I’m sure and we had the door locked from the inside as I recall !! Great night, well what I remember of it !!
Cheers Dennis.

Drummonds are still going strong, I am privileged to have known the late Peter Drummond. Without doubt one of this industries best adverts for an MD. He helped me out on several occasions with repairs when I was stuck, I have to say also I have never seen a garage and yard to compare for cleanliness. Regards Kev.

They do a historic vehicle road run every year called the Gang Warily Road Run. It’s done in memory of Peter Drummond IIRC.
And down The Glen came Kelmans men, two out of ten were men the rest were @@@>><?<?<.

Aye Dave there was one along the same lines about Sam Andersons something about LANCERS and CHANCERS. Eddie.

Doun the glen came Andersons men
a bunch o’ fairy dancers
some of them were time served men
the rest were ■■■■■■ chancers.
What about this one, then. The Nuek, Lndon Road, Glasgow on the A74.
When I look at it now, I wonder why it looked so big inside!
It was always busy, lorries lined up on both side’s of the duel carriageway.
Great (Scottish) rolls and Lorne Sausage (Thats square to the foreigners!).
Pickfords is about a 1/4 mile along the road on the right.
Alex

First exit off the M74 past the M73 turnoff (Carmyle and Tollcross.).
Turn right at bottom of ramp and turn left (London Road) at next lights. It’s on your left.
I last went past it a few months ago and it was still standing. The photo’s show the original building.
