Armagedon:
Always find the A34 an interesting drive and I am sure you are all aware it will shortly have a lorry overtaking ban on most of it.C’est la vie.
Oh god, that’s going to be really fun. As it goes I think overtaking bans (in sections) make matters worse. Take the A14 (Catthorpe - Kettering) all they achieve is to stop overtaking when you could fly by and instead cause an elephant race once the restriction ends.
An overtaking ban for HGVs is all very well, but do they seriously expect us to sit behind a lumbering crane, tractor, or any agency driver hanging his day out?
What about when that steam fair lot from Berkshire decide to drag out their museum relics and crawl up from Newbury? Very nice if that’s your thing but wasting my life in one of their slow motion convoys isn’t on my bucket list.
Dipper_Dave:
Yep lorry overtaking ban and HGV speed limit of 50mph, strictly enforced on rollercoaster section.
Sure it’s unpopular but drivers unaware of how gradients vs weight work are to blame.
It’s quite simple if your lite and gaining on a heavier vehicle towards the crest of the hill, think to yourself is it worth it and do I have the overrun/balls to compete on the downhill coast.
Tip if your not a box jockey/car transporter/bulker you probably don’t.
Lorry overtaking ban on part of the m42 the amount of trucks that ignore it
On my drive home from work amazes me …
Needs to be a 40mph limit on this road for heavy traffic, and that 7.5t limit in the lane two enforced 24/7.
You’re not going to change the lie of the land with all it’s rollercoaster dips and hills - so don’t act as if you can “win” an elephant race FFS.
The slowest vehicles up the hills are going to be the runaways downhill on the other side!
…Oh, and the Exhaust brake on Actros units pulling a full 44t - won’t hold it either. USELESS the way it double-changes down and tries to rev it’s nuts off!
