I hope they are not waking drivers up in the night■■?
Then again, if it is such a ‘Safety Issue’ then they are leaving a ‘Dangerous Vehicle’ as they are claiming it is
Imagine the stories…
-
Police wake driver up vehicle not lit… driver falls asleep at wheel as he was unable to get back to sleep
-
Police put a fine on the drivers windscreen and leaves vehicle and driver alone… minutes later a car ploughed into is as the vehicle was not ‘visible’…

they must be leaving tickets on windows, seen quite a few trucks in lay bys early this morning without lights on, thought they’d have them swithched on if they had been woken
Not many had their lights on last night. Seen one guy with bicycle lights on the off side. He was still not compliant. I guess this is going to be a good money earner for The police.
Sat on the fence on this one, tbh. The Orwell’s my Op Centre and I personally like Karl, he’s a decent bloke. Not sure who to believe about the whole affair. If it’s true then i feel it’s been a bit of an own goal. However ask yourself what kind of businessman wants to alienate his customers
That aside, it’s a ■■■■■ state of affairs that’ll only get worse, imho. I personally feel (cue Carryfast) that the Rail lobby, if not directly involved, will certainly welcome this harassment of drivers.
It’s a “Stepping stone” toward the end of tramping in this country. Where are our industry’s champions? The toothless tigers of RHA/FTA?
It’ll have to come from an overwhelming number of angry voices , in a sustained “InfoWar”, to quote Alex Jones.

The industrys on its arse. It’ll stay there too until the folk at the bottom sort it ourselves. Government DO NOT GIVE A ■■■■ ABOUT YOU. The rates on most haulage but especially dock work are ■■■■■■ The rates on dock work are dictated by the shipping lines in all but a few cases.
With this in mind paying £20+ per night is unsustainable. Imho, whats needed is, at the very least, a “Consignee infrastructure fee” of say, £20 per load, collected in the same way as vat and ringfenced purely for lorry parks and facilities for commercial drivers. This would create a free at the point of use network of truckstops and cafes and revolutionise the state of affairs we have now. It’d certainly take some organising but those corrupt and lazy ■■■■■■■ in SE1 need a new hobby!
Only a rough idea but to my mind perfect sense. You should see the bills handed out by shipping agents to importers/exporters, this would be a drop in the ocean.

Its an idea. I too have thought about the lack off overnight parking facilities over a number off years. I have for along time thought that the owners of industrial parks should have to provide overnight parking areas for HGV’s, maybe based on the square footage off the industrial buildings on the estate. being a cab rat I’m not too concerned about refreshment facilities, but toilet and a well lit area to park the Truck could easily be provided, which is more than you get in the average lay by. Somewhere like Magna Park has plenty of space on the side of the estate roads, which could be utilised between 6pm-6am, it has plenty of CCTV to deter those with mallicious intent and there are plenty of other estates that are very similar. This could be achieved during the planning process.
If Industrial estates did this then lab by parking would be a thing off the past, and as far as I’m aware the lighting law doesnt apply on roads with a speed limit less than 30mph.
Imagine the Prologis security men in there little noddy cars saying evening driver, there’s a toilet just down there, and could you move on by 6am. At the moment you stop for more than 5mins and its you cant park here driver

Wrong. The exemption for lights on a parked vehicle in a 30mph limit only applies to cars, motorbikes, invalid carriages and goods vehicles with an unladen weight less than 1525kg. It does not apply to anything with a trailer, regardless of unladen weight.

Fair enough, still think that Indusrial Estates should provide parking, even if they have to make space off the road

It might be if they actually got the money (which they don’t).

I doubt you’d ever get any fee ring fenced for truck parking, to many vested interests and truck parking far to far down the political agenda.
It would be great if large industrial areas were forced to provide parking, but again to many vested interests complaining that it will add to thier costs and make them uncompetitive against foreign competition.
The industry could help itself and offer parking at thier yards, which if they have a lot of trampers will be empty during the week and benefit them as thier trampers can find secure parking in other parts of the country.
Of course the main thing that’ll ruin that is the fact that it’ll only take a few of the pig ignorant drivers that’ll leave the place like a tip or leave a trail of disstruction.
Another option is to close lay-bys or turn them into emrgency only and replace them with fewer but larger parking areas, this means trucks are parked well away from the main carriageway and there are fewer points were vehicle are joining the carraigeway which should decrease the chances of collisions with slower moving vehicles.
It won’t happen as it will cost money and no doubt some bunch of nimbys will object because it might lower the house prices if a load of truck are park within a 10 mile radius.
