IMHO, the lack of a consignor liability law needs addressing to more fairly share the legal responsibility and penalties for running overweight vehicles.

You’re right of course - I wasn’t considering the difference between the consignor and the operator - and no doubt the pallet company would want to be able to push the blame back up the line to their customers too.

Could be very complicated - simple while it’s the driver committing a road-traffic offence (other than for the poor driver, who can’t weigh the load anyway), but could some ebay seller who wrote the wrong weight on the collection note for a pallet of car spares be liable for some fraction of an overloaded lorry two days down the line?

Glad I don’t have to write the laws…

nice bit of work jennie, but pray you dont get sent to palletways hub on the same fradley park estate cos its a LIVING NIGHTMARE SOMETIMES, av spent many a long night there waiting in long queues and visiting every shed possible, then loaded unloded and reloaded again to get the gross weight down and some of the forkie drivers need a swift kick in the family jewels for their arrogant nature. not an experience i would recommend to anyone, newbie OR old hand. but hey ho any experience is good experience so good luck for the future.

I was there again last night got in about 2345 and was finally loaded and on my way out at about 0315 , if you ever see a little girly with a bright yellow hard hat cap come over and say hello as you know got plenty of time to chat :laughing: might even put me hand in me pocket and buy you a coffee :wink:
