£60 fine, Red light cameras & 999 blue lighters

Emergency services on a blue light run are excempt from red lights however they have to treat them as a give way.

Semtex:
The problem is that passing a red light is an “absolute” offence. It doesn’t matter if you are moving out of the way for blues and twos or a 100ft tall king kong about to step on your vehicle crushing it and you. You’ve driven past a red light so you are guilty.

Thats the problem with all enforcement cams & the way motoring justice is going these days. Less & less there is no consideration of the circumstances, just have you broke the law ? A: yes then fine & points, now go away little person.
More & more I think the establishment form politicians, civil servants, councilors, police etc consider that they are above “Joe Public” who’s just the berk who has to be made to work & taxed. It’s getting like Orwells Animal farm. We’re the donkeys, they are the pigs :unamused: .

there is no reason to allow them though there go though a red light there are breaking the law as well, no one is allowed to go on a red light even the police no emergency services are allowed to do it there a law on it so fire engine driver have been done for it and police, i think its contravening the red light law, there do go though them but do so at there own risk

few years ago i was at the lights police coming behind me blues and two but no way for me to go i say there light changed and let he though 10 mins later police officer saw me in my car and pulled me up and said i was going to get a ticket for obstruction, i said i will got to court then i told he what i just posted above and he new i was right and give me a warning, he said don’t do it again .i said i will do it if its red no one can ask me to move at a red light and i will go to court for it,

Emergency services are allowed to go through red light. providing it is safe to do so, they are however not allowed to force other road users into the junction. If it’s busy and they can’t get through they should turn of there equipment and wait for lights to change.

Rog. Blue light runs are not logged (not so as you would be able to identify where a specific vehicle was). it’s down to the individual driver and no one else, whether they use blues and two’s or not.

Anyone can go through a red light if it unsafe for them to stop as the lights change, however the way cameras work it would be very hard to prove that the numpty going to hit you, especially if they managed to stop.

The ticket office should cancel the ticket if it was to assist the services however how could the driver of said vehicle get the registration numbers of every car which moved out of their way when they were going to an emergency?

Its exactly like that! Until we change it. :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

Emergency vehicle drivers responding to an incident which warrants blue emergency beacons and audible warning device MAY pass a red traffic signal at the drivers discretion. The driver MUST give way to other road users and pedestrians and not cause danger to others!

Emergency vehicle drivers have already been successfully prosecuted for not obeying the above!

As for anyone else, you MUST STOP at a red traffic signal, no matter what else is happening on the road around you. I have 3 points & £60 fine to show for it!

you only have to stop at a red light if its safe to do so, same as a green light means go if its safe.

That’s a new one on me !!!

There may be a case for an emergency - such as one of those horrible huge 44 tonne artics coming up behind you at 56 mph when the light is on red and you have stopped or about to stop at a red light

Slopes off into the ether…

It would depend on who the 999er was. If it was the police I would wait at the lights and give them the finger if they made an impolite comment about it. If it was one of the other two, I would have to decide at the time, ie, is there another way?

I definitely wouldn’t be paying the fine.
