7.5T private use

First, am I right in thinking you don’t need a tacho to use a 7.5T for private use , eg moving house or motor home etc,

Second, If you don’t need to use a tacho for private use is it still legal to drive for private use after driving one for commercial use for a full day … eg 9 hours driving.

In a nutshell, can I do a days work on tacho, then borrow a 7.5T to move house without using tacho?

The rules govern the carriage of goods for hire or reward.
If you are moving house for yourself, you have not hired the vehicle out and there is no reward.
You do not, therefore, need to follow the tachograph and O licensing rules.

If the 7.5 tonne gross vehicle is a motorhome, it is not a goods vehicle and also not a passenger carrying vehicle, so the rules do not apply to it either.

Common sense should prevent anyone from doing a full tachograph day or even a full day in the office and then another shift either moving house or taking the motorhome away on holiday.
Sadly, this is often not the case.

Regards,
Nick.

YES … but I would suggest using the tacho in out of scope mode and doing a printout with explanation or by putting the reason on an analogue chart - just to cover any missing mileage

As long as the horsebox or any LGV is not over 7.5 tonnes then that is ok for private use

Article 3
This Regulation shall not apply to carriage by road by:

(h) vehicles or combinations of vehicles with a maximum
permissible mass not exceeding 7,5 tonnes used for the
non-commercial carriage of goods;

Hire and Reward isn’t the key thing these days, the new terminology is commercial carriage of goods.

So even if you are doing it for free, no reward, you might in some situations still need to use a tacho.
