6 month driving ban

Goldfinger:
How many come on here whinging about pay / conditions etc??

How many say there’s other jobs (NON DRIVING) paying more■■?

Are you a care worker looking for a job with the following:

Competitive rates of pay (from £7.90 to £10.13 and enhanced rate of pay for QCF/NVQ qualified carer’s) plus Mileage allowance paid at 40p per mile from home

Drive a truck. Cost to obtain licence £3,000. Wages from £6.70 an hour.

Wipe old peoples’ bums. Cost to obtain licence nil. Wages from £7.90 an hour.

It’s a no-brainer really.

I just hope the magistrate can see the irony of getting the final 3 for doing 60 on the M25, a speed we mostly vainly dream of reaching on that road!

Were all the points for speeding

If yes then why are you not learning from your errors ?

i took speed awareness course in july 2012

And you obviously never took on board afterwards what they said at the course

I may have misunderstood it, but I don’t think the OP was looking for pious and sanctimonious moralising.

I doubt the OP would have anything to worry about IF he’d taken onboard what was said at the course. Because if he had he would’ve amended his behaviour to avoid acquiring more points.

As a “professional driver” all of us have a moral duty to drive in a professional manner.

However as a TNuk member I figure pious and sanctimonious moralising is par for the course here

Hi if you go to court they can offer you a HARDSHIP DISPENSATION not garenteed though depends on your circumstances
and how a ban would affect those who are close to you adversley/ dispropotionatly its a case of scrubbing up suited and booted yes sir no sir three bags full sir etc etc and hope some idiot in an hgv has not just run over the magistrates prize begonias

At that time if you were going reach or pass 12 points then you weren’t offered a fixed penalty, and had to go court. not sure what the situation is now though.

That is still the same now, even VOSA won’t offer you a fixed penalty if it will put you on 12 or more points.

Dan ze Man:
If you driving for living go to court, they can give you points but let you keep the license and your livelihood depends on it.

Happen to friend of mine. Judge let him keep the license with 12 points.

.
OP will have no choice about going to court, he can’t be offered a FPN if it puts him on 12 or more points.

To get caught speeding 5 times in 3 years they’re so sodding stupid it would be a waste of time anyway as they wouldn’t understand what was being said.

Just a shame the Traffic Commissioner won’t revoke the OPs LGV entitlement on the grounds of excessive knuckle dragging.

Thought it might be, I’m under the impression that the 12 point + licence is becoming a rare thing, regardless of occupation. 20 odd year ago when I had one, it seemed not uncommon amongst truckers, but then so was having a laugh

The hourly pay rates for mobile care workers are normally only paid for the time allocated to be spent at each clients address, for instance, a 15 minute visit allocated to a client that takes 20 minutes, means your hourly rate has dropped by a third. The time traveling between clients is covered by the 40pence a mile, and that mileage is be calculated by the employer, and not always accurate to the actual miles covered, have to take a diversion and your mileage rate has dropped, and was probably less than 40pence in reality anyway. Take the cost off fuel, higher insurance premiums(using your car for your work) and wear and tear, then that nominal 40 pence per mile is looking a bit short, and as that wont be 40ppm in reality, then its probably costing you to travel between clients. Not looking so good now.

I do know several Women that do this work, and am relating the stories told to Me, usually when I mention how easy it must be being paid to drink Tea with old people :open_mouth:

And another one.

to be fair though bobbya, both have only said what the vast majority would be thinking.

I got caught had 6 points and drove like miss daisy for 3 years until they all came off. the OP had 9 and freely admits he was speeding but it was ok as road was clear? what does he expect a load of well done son your a credit to the profession posts?

+1

I can never understand the ones paid by the hour that deliberately speed? Find them on virtually every 50mph motorway restriction with average speed cameras, riding on the limiter. I would be more frightened of the points than the clown in the transport office.

I misunderstood it too. He said he’d been banned, then he said he hadn;t !! :grimacing:
