50 Mph limit (Scotland) and average speed cameras

therealnasa:
To the OP, I hope your original question has been answered and in true trucknet fashion we digress, lol.

Thanks therealnasa it certainly has, thanks to everyone that gave their advice, digression isn’t always bad lol

You’re confusing the M90 with a dual carriageway, it isn’t, it’s a motorway and so different limits apply.

I think he means the A90 from Perth to Aberdeen.

Thanks guys, the A90 was what I meant. Sorry for the confusion.

Came down the A9 last Saturday from Inverness and at first I couldn’t fathom why on certain stretches of single track it had ‘experimental 50 mph’ signs up (or similar wording) and then back to 40 after a while? It seemed strange to follow two trucks (Woodside Haulage and one other) that speeded up then braked back to 40 again every few miles? Had totally forgotten that Scotland hadn’t accepted the 50 limit on all roads. To be fair to those two lads though they kept dead on the limits.

Pete.

I’m a plobber as one poster referred, I stick to the limits or rather I stick to satnav limits as IMHO most truck speedos are out about 2mph at 56mph. So it says your doing 56 on the speedo but the satnav says 54.

The biggest culprit for speeders apart from the A75 is the A9 Dunblane to Broxden and the A90 Dundee to Aberdeen.

I’ve done some stats and 80% of hgv’s speed on these sections.

The speed limits in Scotland are stupid and it is so refreshing to go down the A1 to England and the traffic keeps moving. But I have had abuse from car drivers for sticking to the limit and the biggest culprits are those on the A9 north of Dingwall. We don’t set the limits the silly Scottish Nationalist Government does!

As you’re a new pass I’ll give you some advice, which I don’t mean to come across as condescending I’ll add.

That advice is… don’t worry about what others do, just keep yourself right.

Best advice you’re gonna get, don’t copy lemmings, they normally walk off cliffs.

I am based in Dundee and I am regularly on the A9 from Perth to Stirling, A9 Perth to Inverness and A90 Dundee to Stonehaven that all have the average speed cameras.
Sometimes I forget all about them but to answer your question I have driven on all these roads on a regular basis at 56mph and have never had a ticket or been pulled for speeding on these roads.
Keep yourself right, if your company is more than happy with you doing 50 then just stick to the speed limit and you can’t go wrong.

Yesterday - A9 to the A95 then onto Elgin. 50 on A9 and 40 on the A95. Followed same route back and was overtaken by a HGV god on a corner on A95. Because I was driving at the correct speed I was able to slow down and prevent an accident.

Complemantary Coffee Bean shaker for him on the way past , mind.

Today - Girvan down the a714 to Newton Stewart. Then a75 all way to M6.

Sat at 40mph all the way. Pulled in to lay bys now and again to let the traffic past.

Stress free and some lovely views. No point racing about up in Scotland.
