to be fair to the bloke though he did welcome me to go back there, when i have
driven something at 44 ton.
Don’t be fair to the bloke mate, he isn’t being fair to you. Whats the difference between a 44t truck you will drive for Joe Bloggs Transport down the road and his 44t truck? probably nothing at all, so if Joe Bloggs can give you a go, so can this bloke.

Its people like that that help cause the barriers to young drivers and new drivers of any age.
Very true, but if this company can get an experienced driver as opposed to someone inexperienced (which includes me) I can understand their position, after all an inexperienced driver is more of a potential risk (IMO) for no added benefit. Personally I would take a job with someone who had previously knocked me back (if it was a good position), why not? their reasons were valid and I can understand the point of view.

Because if everyone had their attitude, neither me or you would ever get off the ground to begin with, and they wouldn’t have a single driver today because nobody passes their class 1 or 2 with the kind of experience a company wants, they have a responsibility to the industry to train people to make sure there is a skills pool, its selfishness like this what causes long term damage and a serious shortage of skilled people. Like I said before, if its a company you really want to work for anyway, then sure, I’d try them again, but if they’re just a bog standard transport company and little different from any other, then I wouldn’t be going to them in the future unless I was very desperate.

I agree.
why do you think these companies struggle to get drivers? there is a shortage and there is competition. if they dont have anything to keep drivers, they will lose them and deservedly so. thats why we cant keep any at our place
