I did my first trip to Europe in a 1726 Mercedes in the early Eighties. I thought I was king of the road at the time. Mt Cennis, Mt Gennevre, Mt Cerdon. Taught me a lot about driving up and down hill though. After that they gave me an F10 with a highline roof and lots of extra horses, well about 50! Next up a 112 Scania followed by a Danish spec 112 with a low ratio diff. That could pull. Finished up with a 480 Daf which didn’t feel all that much better than my old 112 really. Different breed though, aircon, superspace cab, aircon for night time, inverter, all the comforts of home. Still think of the downside.
Osties everywhere, truckstops closing down because of them. Police after all they can get. Thieves everywhere. Rush, rush, rush. All those bloody lights on trucks just to trundle up and down motorways and truck spotters driving trucks.
I am very pleased to have done my trucking from the late seventies up to last year. CPC? What’s that all about?
I think the same as you, used to see loads of Scania 113, PJK used to have a lot.
The Volvo fl 10, nothing wrong with that, and British International had a few hundred Iveco Turbo-stars.
My first was a DAF 310, it pulled well, then i had two 142`s pre limiter days.
