22 plate Volvo truck eco mode?

I’ve not heard of a CC system that can detect roundabouts and apply the brakes

From you? What is the latest Actros that you’ve driven?
That’s exactly what my '71 plate could do. I loved it. Never driven such an intelligent CC system from any of the other manufacturers.

Don’t get CC mixed up with terrain mapping and radar Stu. Two totally different animals

Sorry to hijack a post but it might help others too.

When the CC suddenly thinks you need to anchor on, does it put the brake lights on?

It’s the AEBS that does it but yes it does. On DAFs at least when you’re using the exhaust brake, such as when approaching roundabouts etc once it starts slowing down past a certain rate it’ll also put the brake lights on. I’ve noticed Scannies and others do it when going down steep hills using exhaust brake.

Top tip…if you’re following a DAF from 64 plate onwards don’t sit up its backside if it’s coming to any bridge or overhead motorway sign over the road. You may find you have to step on the brakes suddenly. Most of the time they’ll just flash up a collision warning but sometimes they can proper slam the brakes on for half a second or so.

Also if you get overtaken by a DAF, flash them in and they don’t immediately move over it’s not because they’ve not noticed you, it may be because they know there’s a bridge coming up that may set it off so they’re doing you a favour. Most of the ones in our fleet which do this tend to do it on the A1M between Scotch Corner and J49 for the A168 to Thirsk for some reason. Several trigger on the same bridge just before J50.

Absolutely.
We had some DAFs that would all “shy” at the same bridge. A high one with no pillars near the road.
At other times, mine would “see” small posts, and street furniture, but not “see” other bigger hazards.
I can see why they are fitted to trucks, but as with all safety features they are only an aid to the driver.
Do not rely on them.

Just the other day on the news over here, we had a moron in a Tesla plough into people because it was on jeffing auto drive, or whatever it’s called.

This one! 15 plate which has since been reserved for agency drivers as ‘the management’ don’t want them in the 23 plate FHs. In my defence I always knocked it off on a DC so was blissfully unaware it could detect roundabouts as I preferred to just let it roll to and save a bit of juice but from what I’m reading here, it doesn’t seem that good……flat out to a roundabout then dropping the anchors last minute doesn’t suit my style of driving. Had it for about 5 years then the Mercs were replaced with 71 plate TGXs and again, I’d knock the cruise off
