Streamlined Trucks?

I was just reading an article where it’s proposed for the overall length of trucks to be increased, enabling a more streamlined design for trucks. I believe some of the benefits will be improved wind resistance, and a more aerodynamic design could improve frontal accident protection for pedestrians and other vehicles. With that in mind, can anyone think of any downside? And what do you think of this truck design by MAN?

Would be more interested to see how, where they would propse to put the mirrors, on this MAN design. thus depending on visibilty etc.

There’s a thought. I hadn’t quite noticed the lack of mirrors!

Pretty eye catching but…Where would the bling bling merchants put the banks of spotlights top and bottom, the cow catcher front gate, the side pipes, chrome horns, windscreen stone guard etc??

Also a lack of openable windows, so running off air con is it?? So much for fuel saving then.
Also where in this thing are you supposed to be sitting as it appears that the sloping windows offer even larger blind spots.

Probably got some cameras in those indicator ‘winglets’. There would be some anguish if one got ‘detatched’ though! :open_mouth: .Also, how on earth are you supposed to cope with a steep ramp?

i think it looks like one of these

I think one thing to remember here guys is that is just one possibility for the design of streamlined trucks. Taking into consideration that the legislation for this will take some time to be put through, we’d be looking at seeing trucks like this in 2018-20 - This gives a bit of time for the truck companies to come up with some practical streamline designs.

Mercedes-Benz have already fully tested ‘trailer wings’ in anticipation of the ruling.

Don’t think you’ll need a lhd or rhd anymore, just sit on the middle.
