Also a truck breaker from Pontlanfraith/black wood area… sure his place was in an old quarry?
dazcoupe, it was Lecker Lewis in Pontlanfraith they had all kinds of trucks in there. They would strip 2/3 to make one and sell it on. You never new what you were buying, and when it came time for parts forget trying to order via a part number etc, you had to take the part with you to match up. If all else failed go back to Leckers if you could not get the parts, swap the truck lol.
Furbers were from Tir-y-Birth, their yard was next to Charlie Jenkins Datsun dealership. Dougie senior was a fitter for Harold Wakely before buying second hand Adams tippers and contracting for them. They also did a lot of daywork for the NCB early 80’s. Doug had 4 sons who at one time all worked for him, and each one serviced their vehicle with Doug every week. Those Reivers were in good mechanical condition.
Neil, D F Stephens Sr, ran a repair business at their yard before putting tippers on the road.
You are right about D H Davies being closer to town being the Bedford and Vauxhall main dealers. At one time they ran a major parts operation, supplying the likes of Hills of Tredegar, Rhymney Transport Services, Parfitts, Pontlottyn Transport and many other bus and truck concerns with the necessary parts to keep their motors on the road across the heads of the valley.
They did not sell heavy vehicles, most of the bus and coach chassis came from Vincent Greenhous in Hereford or Gwyns garages in Ystrad Mynach.
