Hello, this is my first post on the site but I have been reading through the other posts for the last couple of weeks. For all those about to take the theory tests, I thought I’d share my experience and reassure you that they aren’t that bad and are certainly nothing to get worried or stressed about.
Yesterday I took all three parts of the LGV theory test. My multiple choice was booked for 10:00, CPC case studies for 14:00 and hazard perception for 15:15. When I arrived at the test centre at 09:30, the friendly staff said I could take all three tests back to back, in any order I wanted, and be on my way by 11:00. Brilliant I thought.
I cracked on with the multiple choice first and after 30 minutes and twice checking my answers, I emerged from the test room to collect my result - 100% correct answers.
Buzzing from that result I decided to do the hazard perception next, the one I was most worried about. I shouldn’t have worried. The official test’s ‘hazards’ appear to be deliberatley staged and are much easier to spot than those on the Driving Test Success software I had bought to practice with. This uses real footage, no dodgy acting and I highly reccommend it for anybody worried about the hazard perception test. I came out to find I had passed with 79%.
Feeling massive relief, I ventured back out into the morning sun for a coffee and a ■■■ before returning to the test centre confident I was fully prepared for the CPC test. How wrong was I. I sat down at the computer to find all the text on the screen in Welsh …and I can’t speak a single word of Welsh.
I told the staff and was taken out of the test room. After a lengthy telephone call they came back and told me I wouldn’t be able to take an English test today. However, I could have English audio played through the headphones but the text on the screen would still be in Welsh
or I could arrange a test for another day free of charge. This wasn’t an option for me, so despite the advice of the test centre staff not to take the test because I would be at a severe disadvantage, i decided to take the risk.
After nearly an hour of listening to a computer voice slowly droning on reading through all of the case studies, questions and answers I came out to collect my results. Guess what, they were in Welsh too so I wasn’t sure if I had passed or not. I could see the number 47 amongst all the Welsh though so assumed this was my score. I phoned customer services to request an English version of the results to be sent to me and they confirmed that I had passed with 47 out of 50. Thank ■■■■.
My Cat C practical training and test and CPC Mod 4 are now booked for the middle of June and I can’t wait.
The morale of the story is - with good preparation, all three tests are actually quite easy, even if you can’t read what’s on the screen.
Thanks for listening,
