Funding for training - it could be for you!

£1.6m European money for skills still available.

Organisations that provide learning and skills in Essex have another opportunity to submit proposals that will boost the skills of individuals and the productivity of businesses in the county.

This means that Essex haulage companies can in cooperation with a training provider, arrange cost free traning of drivers and other staff. One company which has already successfully taken up this opportunity is Rochford based Baltic Distribution.

One such project is “girls in gear” which is a scheme to encourage females to come into the industry at all levels.

Opportunities include LGV training on rigids and artics, with female instructors. There’s also ADR, CPC & FLT.

Colleges in my area that do this are: Handbridge (Chester) St Helens and City College Manchester amongst others. There’s no fees, no loans and no nonsense, just a few forms and then hey presto- you’re in!

As Owens_girl says, this is funded from the European Union, so there’s no excuse for wannabes, ESPECIALLY FEMALES, not to attempt any of these qualifications. You’ve nothing to lose.

One advantage that most other training providers can’t match is that, because it’s done at/via a college, there is access to specialists in the assessment and assistance of candidates with dyslexia.

I can supply some contact details to those who are interested.

NOTE TO MODERATOR:- Please don’t view this as a commercial advert, it is specifically designed to target a particular group of people to attract them into the industry. For that group, there are no fees. In the interests of fairness and balance, I’d point out that those people not meeting the criteria for free courses can still partake. This is because education must be open to all. So it’s only slightly commercial  Just a bit.

I have been informed that you can get a CAREER ADVANCEMENT LOAN from the jobcentre at very low rates and that is does not have to be paid back until you are in stable employment - not sure if true but it must be worth asking about at your local jobcentre.

Are you talking about Career Development Loans, Rog?

Info on CDLs can be found here.

I remember looking into them some years ago to finance becoming a driving instructor, but decided against that career path.

I Live in norfolk and work full time now, i was wondering if there is any funding available for me for taking my class 2 licence?
Does any one know?
I really do want my licence but i keep making little mistakes on my test which is very depressing.

Seems like the government were doing their bit to help people better themselves in England

Best bet is to contact Learn Direct and ask…

I had the jobcentre today and I asked about class 2 training and the person told me labour got rid of the training 2 years ago and only just bringing training back in now slowly

Just phoned the CDL helpline (0800 585 505)

Some key points to note,

HGV/PCV/HIAB/PLANT/ADR courses are covered by CDLs but the training provider must be CDL registered, they can register by calling, 0845 0000045.

80% of funding is covered or 100% if you’ve been out of work for 3 months or more. As previously stated you only start repaying the month after training has finished.

They are financed from 3 banks, but it appears that you must have a reasonable credit history, or you’ll be declined.

May be what your looking for to fund that initial training.

I am still looking for funding but as i am in employment can’t goto job centre and don’t want to go to bank.
DOH!!!
:frowning:
makes me annoyed it costs so much to pay for lessons for class 2

:bulb: :bulb: Although not quite the normal type of funding you might expect…
THIS may be an alternative :bulb: :bulb:

I f anyone in coventry is training to improve their career then i just found out that a scheme is being run to help you fund it, i am hoping to get a grant for £1000 back for my training if you are interested then the council are calling it LEGGIT, but you must be over 25 and doing training to further yourself to get it.

and in Scotland up to £200 off any approved training courses

“Unsticky-ing” this as the OP is way out of date. :grimacing:
