from my recent travels from london to italy every day before i started put analogue tacho on other work to show vehicles checks then just leave it on rest so every time i pull up it go s automatically to rest.
some tell me thats wrong it should only go to rest when u take a 15 , 45 or daily rest but as i wasnt doing any other work apart from refueling am i right to just leave it on rest the whole time.
also after 9 hours of driving was told i had to take a hour break not a 45 and then i could run for another hour am i right in thinking i only have to take a 45?
I leave it on other work unless im on a break, it looks better when vosa look at you cards.
if you do a 10 you only need to have 2 x 45min breaks, 45min after 4.5hours driving another 45 mins after 4.5 hours driving and then you have 1 hour driving left.
CPC Anybody?
From what I remember with analog tachos, after a second 45 mins following 9 hours driving in one day you can then drive another hour providing you do not ecceed you daily total permitted duty.
45 mins, then another hour but you cant drive with it on rest, it would show rest if you took 15mins to refuel etc. Misuse of mode switch.
If they saw drive break drive break drive break they would do you for misuse of mode switch. Leave it on work and only flick to break when you’re on break.

If you’re caught refuelling whilst the tachograph is on break you can expect a fine, fuelling is other work
Generally I’d say it’s best to leave the tachograph on other work and just put it on break/rest when you are on break or rest.
On a 10 hour driving day you still cannot drive for more than 4.5 hours before having a 45 minute break, how you divide the driving time up is your choice but it will always mean at-least two 45 minute breaks.
It doesn’t matter how long the breaks are 2, 5 or 15 or more minutes, but breaks of less than 15 minutes won’t count for anything, they’re still breaks but won’t count for either the tachograph regulations or the WTD.
Whoever told you that you should take a 1 hour break before driving the 10th hour doesn’t know what he’s talking about so ignore him
Also if you have a 15min the next must be 30, not vice versa or any less if you took 25 the first time. You probably know that anyway but worth pointing out to new drivers that are unsure.
yeah knew that ecky it was the rest / other work i was unsure of didnt relaise they could do you for misuse of tacho especially when u not doing work ony pulling up here and there for a shop etc
They can’t do you for stopping to go to a shop with your tachograph on break but they most certainly can for refuelling with the tachograph on break

The old automatic analogues were designed to do just that, you only selected other work when you were actually doing some, these replaced the 4 symbol units of old. They did have a drive mode on them as well.
Many a rest period being taken with a slow fuel pump or a cherry stop
lol eckyboy thus why i leave on rest that way u dont forget to change it
but didnt know u could be done for misuse of tacho for it must chane it every so often now to other work to account for refueling

By default the new ones go onto driving when the wheels turn, & other work as you stop. You have to physically select rest or break which is in itself work
