the company will be uk based, ill be driving for a subby though. my old man is driving for the same subby, but he couldnt shed any light on this as he doesnt know exactly the rules regarding me having the iom licence. he is on the grandfathers rights now at the minute but says he has to do the same by sept next year or the year after. hence why im after advice here.
From the rules I have read on the internet it does seem as though you will need to exchange your IOM for a UK licence and get mods 2 & 4 before being allowed to drive LGVs commercially for a mainland company
Its not that clear in regards to dcpc in your situation but that would be my take on it
As I have plenty of spare time I will call DVLA and the DSA tomorrow to try and get a definitive for you and your old man

i worked with towercranes for 9 years up till last year, i had a cpcs card for that line of work which was in accordance with uk regs red card at first for 3 years, then on 2 a blue card which was valid for 5 years, i had to log in a book, hours, lifts, what was lifted and so on. im sure this dcpc is along the same lines as what i was doing?
Did you pass car test before 1997 ?

When you pass module 2 you have 2 years to do the module 4.
Forgot to say, the module 2 takes about half an hour (depending how quick you answer the 50 questions over about 7 case studies), the module 4 is 30 minutes so I believe.

Cheers tarrman, I think it would make more sence doing the 2 on the 1 day as the nearest place for me to do it is Liverpool, as ill have to fly there. Getting the book cpc book tomorrow, but from what I’ve gathered on here its more about common sence.
I called the DSA dcpc hotline on 0191 201 8112 and the nice young lady went away for a while to ensure she gave me the definitive answer …
You and your dad will need the driver cpc if driving LGVs commercially in the UK whether on a IOM or UK mainland licence
They THINK the exception for dcpc would be if it was an IOM LGV on an IOM licence which popped over to the mainland for a delivery etc and then returned to the IOM
This may be relevant - gov.im/cso/externalrelations/eu.xml
You can retain your IOM licence and do the PERIODIC dcpc but you will need to fill in form DQC1 and send in all your training certificates to DVLA as the hours cannot be uploaded onto the DVLA system using an IOM licence
To do the INITIAL dcpc on an IOM licence things get much more complicated because you will need to contact the DSA DCPC hotline (0191 201 8112) so they can inform you of the very long winded process that is required !!! - simplest way would be to exchange for UK licence first and then there is no hassle

You will have to speak to a trainjng centre of your choice as the two are done at separate buildings. For example my module 2 was in Wigan at a theory centre, the module 4 will be at the main driving test centre. Your best bet would be to phone round a few different hgv training schools in Liverpool and explain your situation and that you would need them both on the same day. Chances are you’ll have to wait around a few hours in between. Might be worth doing an overnighter at a hotel?
If you do book both for the same day or even the day after and in the VERY UNLIKELY event that you do not pass mod 2 then you cannot do mod 4 so that would be a waste of money
Cheers guys, at work here at the minute ill look a bit more in depth when I finish up. My old man is ok, he’s in the uk, he’s been driving the uk Ireland and Europe this past 35 years. He was saying his grandfathers rights run out now next year or the year after, but he couldn’t advise me regarding my Isle of Man licence as he isn’t from here and knows nothing about iom licences! But cheers guys, much appreciated
After countless phone calls and help from various kind people I have my mod 2 test booked for the end of December in England , as the iom isn’t part of the E.U or the uk, it was a bit tricky, but have got there in the end

There giving me a licence number to do the test, but I bring me licence over as I.d.
Do my mod 2 first, then mod 4 in the new year, according to them I’ve got mod 1&3 done!

You do have mods 1 & 3 done because that is the LGV theory and practical tests
I did wonder how they were going to get around the IOM licence issue - thanks
