hi all well if you have read my old post
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=66043&p=827252&hilit=st+loyes#p827252
That st loyes training has been put on hold for i dont know how long so have managed to get the money together to start on the training off my own back and not through our lovely friends at the jobcentre so
i have now at last completted my hazard perception and theory test luckily i dont have to do the cpc thing as i have got grandfather rights on my licence as passed car test in 1994
well what can i say about that hazard perception MAN that was tough you just dont think you are either clicking to much or not enough but i passed 74/100 thaankfully
the theory test was much more simpler its a case of common sense and as long as you have read the dsa guide to the test you should be fine with it (anyone that is thinking of doing training anyway)
well the further good news is i start training for cat c with chevron lgv training in north wales on the 10 th march cannot wait to get started being out of work is just so boring and stressful and extremely hard on the finances so lets just hope i find some work when passed i would like to do my c+e after my cat c but it isnt cheap and i might just see if i can obtain work driving rigids for a few months get a bit of experience.
anyway i hope my post hasnt been to boring i will update when i start my training or if anyone asks me a question
take care and goodluck to all those that are training or about to start
i think from some posts on here we may need it

Hi Wanna-b-a-newbie,
I did read your post and I did ask you a question.
I’m sorry that the St Loyes angle didn’t work out for you, but provided that you meet certain criteria, there’s another source of funding called “REACT” that you might consider.

Chevron Training is on our list of recommended LGV tuition providers, so you’re off to a good start.
Can I suggest that you speak to John about the possibility of you possibly gaining funding from REACT?

Although I’ve always said that there’s an element of luck needed for passing any driving test, some folks find that the real challenge comes when seeking employment post test.
I’d like to wish you good luck in both!!
Hi diesel dave thanks for the advice on react but it looks like it’s more for disabled childrens parents when their children are terminally ill or thereabouts, plus I could only see info on getting help with medical equipment or house appliances.
Thanks for the heads up about it as I may look to knock on their door for help with a wheelchair for my daughter.
At present my daughter is only 7 so we just use a normal wheelchair but as she gets older her condition may worsen so react may be able to help
Thanks for the reply and advice
John

Hi John,
I’m sorry to hear about your daughter, but REACT offers more than you seem to realise.
Please speak to John at Chevron Training about REACT, cos you might be in for a pleasant surprise.
Hi diesal dave thanks some websites you can’t always see everything they may offer I will ring John up at chevron and if it’s ok with you just tell him you mentioned about react as long as that ok with yourself
I think I will start the training as planned but you never know I may get help with training costs for my c+e licence fingers crossed they may be able to help in some way thanks for your help

1st day of training at chevron training in north wales
1st day has gone suprisingly good cosidering i was cacking myself driving up there this morning. my nerves soon went after meeting and talking with my instructer paul, nice chap he is.
after going over the dl25 and what minors you can get and what you can fail on etc we set off for deeside ind est no sooner than leaving the premises we joined thne carriage way to which i saw blue light behind me an ambulance of all times anyway i moved over into a small industrial area but i could of traveled a 100 yds and pulled in somewhere a lot easier anyway after that i had a pleasent drive upto deeside and started to get to grips with the lorry the gears started to come to me a bit easier after the 1st hour probably.
anyway it was a nice drive round deeside and gave me a chance to practice on my 1st day i am pleased and paul said i did good for my 1st day so bring on day 2 tomorrow hopefully will be as good
john
nice one mate, I hope it all goes smoothly for you, Paul is a good guy.
hi all
thanks for the reply phill paul is a great guy isnt he. good luck for your test by the way.
day 2…
where do i start
i was in my words not my instructers absolute ■■■■■ went home feeling like am i ever going to pick it up .
(sorry for the delay everybody i havent been near a pc for a few days so couldnt update)
in brief the day was a drive to wrexham and surrounding areas i mounted about 4 kerbs was told i am not thinking of my length (where have i heard that before)
i crunched the gears went for the wrong gears going for low range when i could stay in high and i put it in 1st at one point at a roundabout which nearly sent me and paul through the windscreen and then i just couldnt think went for about 3 different gears and observation …what observation if anything had been near me on the roundabout i would have wiped them out made a mess of quite a few roundabouts but not as bad a this one.
i honestly felt like crying when i got home i thought i am never going to get the hang of this
but as i am sure some of you have had bad days and monday is another day hopefully i will get it better

Hi mate,
I’ve got no problem with you mentioning that to John, and I hope that it helps you.
Please keep us informed of your progress.

That happens to almost everybody at some point during training and is probably due to nerves.
Please keep at it, cos from now on, it does get better— honestly.
day 3
well today was better than friday i went for a drive round wrexham and surrounding areas i was a bit smoother on the gear change not at what i would like to be so i will be trying to improve on that throughout the week. my observation needs a bit more work as i am still forgetting my blind spot when moving off but i didnt get told to stop today so i must be doing better than friday the worst thing is i dont know wrexham really so i am looking at each corner and thinking should i be slowing down more and then tending to lift off the pedal so i am then going too slow.
i keep coasting as well and i could do with a bit of advice on this if anyone can i basically am coming up to traffic lights and am in high range i am then slowing down on brakes as i get to about 10 mph i flick the range down dip the clutch and then come to a stop and then handbrake out of gear etc but i keep getting told to stop coasting to which i know i am doing but car habits die hard does anyone have any tips on how to get out of this and give me their best example of how i should aproach traffic lights
i then had my reversing practice back at chevron hq which went rather well paul walked me through it and then talked me through it as i tried my first attempt which went great as paul was talking me through it
then my turn on my own no instructor telling me when to turn i pulled up to the cones full left hand down and bobs your uncle got it first time perfect straight in the box pulled forward to begiining and did it again great again was made up paul said it was good i just need to watch my mirrors a litlle more
all in all 3 rd day was ok but just need to get upto speed and not fluff the gears as much and watch my blindspots heres hoping i pick it up tomorrow and the coming days will update my progress as sooon as i can good luck to all that are doing there training
regards
john
Test day!!!
Failed 7 minors 1 serious which I am ■■■■■■ off about as it could of been marked as lane discipline
Basically I went round a roundabout in Chester by the courts if anyone knows it on the outside signalling right to go north Wales and that was my serious
Sorry my posts are missing will fill in the blanks next week have just done this on phone
Will nail it next time
Thanks to all at chevron for the help so far will be seeing you soon for retest
John
really unlucky there mate. properly harsh if you ask me.
that roundabout is especially annoying as technically you should have been in the right lane.
BUT EVERYONE IN CHESTER does exactly what you did. namely getting into the left lane so you don’t have to filter in.
