Today i have removed a fibreglass xl roof from an Alpha and hopefully will be cutting the roof out and fitting it to a standard DAF 85 sleeper ,is it as straight forward as i think it looks ? has anyone done this who knows something they found out afterwards?
just take the sunroof out the standard cab, then fit pod it makes for a betta seal, bit awkard climbing through at night but otherwise no problems.
Already suggested that Andy and got a funny look,i thought about leaving the back half of the roof in for double bunk ?
Did the old one bolt off or glued?
After getting out the trim there was some m8 bolts ,unplug loom under dash clocks ,then used cheese/window wire to cut bonding which wasent too bad compared with a hatcher we took off ,leave all the corners til last do the easy bits first and do the back from left to right so not to cut through the fibreglass.
Have you finished? Any photos of works in progress?
Very interested in how you get on as thinking of doing same myself.
Just finished it today,if you cut the old roof panel out to the inside of the mastic seam on the front and sides and cut the back so to leave a matching flat surface [cut off the raised bit at back],remove the old front markers and tiger seal up you cant see them once high roof is on,run 3 seams of tiger seal all the way round sit roof on then drill the 8mm holes through ,the ariel will reconect as theres a join behind tacho and wire in new top markers and interior lamps then its just the trim ,if you dont want to cut the old side panels and rear panel make sure you take them out the donor vehicle as they are shaped differently at the top ,there is a chanel pop riveted in each side at the back drill out and remove, theres some m8 rivit bushes behind which the top bunk brackets will bolt in to,also the front shelf is different .the main thing is to get everything you can out the doner vehicle.
Any photos? Sounds good.
only a few ,iam banned from putting any more on by the petty coat government as we getting apple mac next week, dont want to crash this computer ,sorry.

I see you went for a subtle colour!
…and frilly pelmet!!
Good to see someone that’s not afraid of doing a bit of work and using their heads, instead of running off to spend every penny on a new motor. Good work chaps!
Saw it coming at me this morning, Good job I had my shades on.
