Does anyone remember a truck drivers magazine called “Headlight”. It lacked the glossy format of “Truck and Driver” and “Trucking” but was very informative. Last time I bought it was in the mid '80s, but I can’t find any trace of it now.
Remember it well. It folded many years ago.

That is probably because of the magazine folding several years ago.
I found digs on my first ever night out from the adverts in headlight
It was a cafe at the bottom of Wrotham Hill somewhere and I had a bed in a room with 4 other beds in it…all containing other ( male) lorry drivers
I feel really old now

I remember it well, it had a big return load/cafe section & as such was quite useful, they had a format that was a cross between TRUCK & the editorial section of Commercial Motor, only not as good, I remember when I started at TRUCK being told that the road tests were actually done by the demo drivers of the respective manufacturer with a bod from Headlight riding along in the passenger seat.
My claim to Headlight fame is that I’ve pulled their old test trailer, it was bought by IVECO & they painted it up & used it on their press fleet.

I remember it well and found it very useful - but I never paid for it! I always got it free at Watling Street Truck Stop.

In the original transport magazines such as Motor Transport, T&D and CM there was Pat Kennett who was an ex Leyland Test Driver I believe, he was an engineer and certainly knew his stuff. I didn’t remember him at Headlight but he wrote many books and was a fountain of knowledge. Most of my lorryist interest comes from Mr Kennett RIP

Could it have been the late Pat Kennet ? I can’t remember him in the Headlight but he wrote an article in the T&D called “Looking Back”. I think he was a field engineer for Leylands many years ago travelling worldwide and would recall some of his expeiences each month adding a little humour. Sadly missed.
Come to think of it Headlight was the driver’s bible years ago, especially if you went in digs. The “return loads” section was handy too if ,like me , you were on “A-Licence” work. All in the past now, regards, Haddy, Gt. Yarmouth.
