Long may it continue as it keeps my wife in a job!
There must be easier ways to get trains into London?
Perhaps on a track?

nope due to the way the railways were privatised it costs more in track access charges to move a train by rail than it does on a low loader .
just think what it would cost if you had to book a preplanned route stick to it and pay for it everytime you used any part of the road system oh and you are liable to pay any other operater in " delay charges " should you break down or run late as thats what train operating and leasing companys face everytime they do an un planned move stupid but there you go its how it works
I must have seen that lorry no more than 10 mins or so before!

It’s a carriage that has been on fire in the recent past according to some chatter elsewhere, and was not able to be moved by rail.
There was a good programme on the TV not long ago that showed Heanor’s moving a 100-and something tonne locomotive from Burton to Hull for export.
