Why do they say they’ll do things, Then do sod all?
Why volunteer to do more work? More work will only ever lead to less money.
They’re trialling it: bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-h … s-25236767
About time the limit was changed, but, bring in greater fines or penalties for those who exceed the “new” limit(s).
I’m all for it. Should increase the limit and if they do, and it is safe to go faster then I will.
I am still bimbling along at 40 mph on the singles as it is the law and I do not go to work to pay £100 speeding fines.
Problem is if the 50 mph trial goes ahead, you will get the hero’s doing 56, then trying to overtake others doing 50. 10% tolerance should be reduced for HGV’s as the speedometers are calibrated.

More money in less time.

Lorry drivers are stupid, they race around for a pittance already what difference does 10 mph make, very little like turkey’s voting for Christmas.
But then stupid is as stupid does.

If someone offers £1000 for a job that will take ten days, Then dosn’t it make more sense to do it in 6 days, have a day off, then do the same again?

Government plans to increase speed limit for HGVs - BBC NewsWhy do they say they’ll do things, Then do sod all?
They are going to be trialing 50mph limits on the A9. so there’s a start!
I wish they’d been trialling it on the A66 last December near Kirby Thore!
.
Lets look at this the other way , they say as lorries are restricted to 40 it causes road rage and dangerous manovers by others… rather than increase the speed limit stick a 40 scways / 50 dcways sign up then shove ave speed cameras in and start grabbing money off the car driver .
If they upped the limits and suddenly there happened to be a few bad accidents the public would hold the government directly to account for increasing the limits so suppose its not just as easy as changing a few road signs and saying off you go.
Wouldn’t make any difference all the big firms seem obsessed with 52 mph.

As much as I don’t particularly rate the overall standards of HGV driving these days, SURELY no one would be daft enough to attempt such an overtake on an SC

It’s the norm on the A75.
A few dont care anyway, yesterday on the A5 near Chirk I was slightly over the 40mph limit at around 44mph and still had an artic right up my backside and I mean very close, he got passed me at a dual carriageway and I politely flashed him back in (no thank you from him) he must have then bombed off on his limiter and he drove past a few empty lay bys only to stop further up at what I presume was his favourite lay by
Speeding for the sake of it

Have you not been on the A15 A16 A17 or A52■■?
Whacky Races.

Except that in haulage all that happens is the guy who did 10 days work in 6 gets given another 4 days work but no extra money.

Yep.
Job & knock multidrop drivers often make me chuckle when they winge about how many drops they have. “I had 20 drops and used to finish in 7 hours, now I have 25 drops and have to rush round like a blue arsed fly to still finish in 7 hours”. Also “I was an hour late out of the yard this morning, so worked through my break so I still finished at the same time”.
Two weeks later… “I have 30 drops now!”. Doh!
