FM12s where are they all?

Not seen an FM12 in a long time. Where they all gone? :open_mouth: One of my favourite trucks to drive, especially for local work/shunting with the nice low cab for easy access.

MCB have a few mk3 and mk2 fm globetrotters, I drove fms before they are a nice comfortable truck but personally I dont like being so low down and wouldn’t be a whole lot of room in them either.

we have a lot of local hauliers using FMs (not sure if they are FM12s, only says FM on front  )

2 firms here soley run FMs on agricultural tipper work and round timber work, the timber guy has an FMX :sunglasses:

We have half a dozen of them and I usually get one two or three times a week, Monday and Friday last week. Always prefer getting one of them rather than a Daf 105 or Axxor.

What reg are they? I can’t recall seeing any newer ones since around 2005/6 period.

Isn’t this technically an FM12?

They are all 08’s. They all begin BX08H in case you are on the M1and M6 and see us one night. We used to have more of them, all the same year, but 6 or 7 went to the Heathrow depot. We did wonder if they had been told they were getting new Volvo’s and expected FH’s and 3 year old FM’s with over half a million k’s on the clock turned up. :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

The 12’s became 13’s in 2005/06 but they still looked pretty much the same, just the slightly larger engine and the dropping of the number from the model designation. So if you are specifically looking for FM12’s then they will be more than about 6 years old but if you just mean FM’s in general then they are still about.

No, technically that’s a sentence. :stuck_out_tongue:

The truck i am in learning to drive in is a 340 BHP FM12 rigid Globetrotter on a 52 reg ( Ex morrisons unit stretched ). Nice smooth drive with a smooth gear box and loving every minute i am behind the wheel of it.

I can see why you like them

Yes they are good trucks. I would happily drive one either manual or auto.

:exclamation: Still about then! Can’t say I’ve seen one at all on my travels this past few weeks. :astonished:

Robert Wiseman are a big user of the new FM’s, not driven one, although I currently drive an FH13 with I-shift and I must admit its an absolute dream to drive. If my employer took it off me for another marque the rattle would come out of the pram, its an awesome bit of kit.

I drive the front end of a 60 plate, 400hp I shift FM globetrotter, its a trunk wag and drag during the day, and at night (my shift) because of access, high street fronts etc the rigid is used. The drop box is usually loaded to the back door, floor to ceiling but its more bulk than weigh. Goes like a dragster until it bumps into the limiter.

I suspect that part of the reason that there don’t seem to be too many about is that the new FM Globetrotters can very easily be mistaken for an FH at a glance as although they’re obviously a fair bit lower they otherwise are near enough identical.

Off-topic slightly, but did anyone have the misfortune to drive operate an FM10?

Fine to drive (when new), but reliability-wise an absolute abortion…

Stobbies only have one afaik, tractor units are a bit more rare but you get quite a few rigids with the FM cabs, mostly tippers or bulk.

Actually, scrap that. I just heard they have 5 in the fleet(?) and possibly a few FM rigids. (Not sure on the validity of this though)

We have a some 57 plate manuals and 60 plate auto’s both are really nice to drive, when fully loaded with milk they are gutless on hills with the 410hp motor. I’m sure fellow truckers have noticed the gap between you and wiseman lorry closes rather quickley on an ascend!
