Gettig C class in Europe?

Hi,
I want to be able to drive 7.5t, but i passed my test after 97, so i have to PAY MONEY TO SOME CORPORATE GOVERNMENT SCUMBAGS for the privilege. Now i dont want to do that, i think that its just another way to drag money out of my pockets.
I dont want to drive commercially, i want to drive my own truck around on surf trips, camping etc…

I have heard that you can take a test in Europe and get it transferred to UK license, i was thinking, maybe Romania, their test must be A. really easy, B. really cheap. Then i can transfer it to my UK license, buy a URAL 4320 over there, and drive it back, sell it, and have my C class, and a bit of money for free!
Does anyone know if you can do this / Has anyone heard of this working?

regards
acid

In the UK if you are under 21 then the Initial Dcpc MUST be done to drive a C privately and commercially.
I do not know the rules for individual EU countries on this.
If over 21 in UK then you do not need to do Initial Dcpc to drive privately on C
If over 18 but under 21 in the UK then you can take C without doing Dcpc but you can only drive C1 (7.5) privately

You would have to change your licence for that of the EU country where you intend to take the LGV test and then change it back again if you wanted to have a UK LGV licence.

Some EU countries MAY have residential rules but I have not heard of any.

I would imagine that any theory will be in the language of the EU country that you do the test in.

You can go from car to LGV C without having to get C1 (7.5) and you may find both C & C1 courses are about the same price

Plenty to think about

Yes you can. But you have to live in the country for six months before applying for license… It can be fun to live in Romania for six months…

I would not bet on that. AFAIK most of Eastern European driving tests are much more difficult than the UK ones… And you have remember that you are about to do it on really poor roads…

and a bit of money for free!

Why so harsh way to get some free money? Come to my place, I have a smart machine arround the corner, it’s writen FREE CASH on it and you can pull banknotes out of it

Yes, to be honest, I heard that. There was a scum in Poland, people were going to Ukraine with the same smart idea as yours.

Most of them are now prosecuted for misleading the authorities, as it’s really easy to prove that they weren’t living in Ukraine for six months prior to their driving tests (I don’t have to mention that their driving licenses are withdrawn from them, do I?) :grimacing:

Rog, AFAIK it’s not an EU thing, it’s just some international law (Vienna convention?). It applies even here in UK, I had to wait for six monts before I was able to get British digicard (as I haven’t Polish one to exchange)… It is not clearly stated that you have to be resident of UK for six monhts to apply for one, but this is one of requirements to get one…

PMSL…

You’d need to be able to speak Romanian as I very much doubt lessons and the test would be in English.

please tell me you meant to write SCAM orys
otherwise the guardian readers will be calling you a racist scotsman

Aint that all a bit of a hassle, might aswell just pass your class 2 test here then u can drive anywhere in Europe anyway cant you??

I dunno how much a Class C1 licence costs to get, but I very much doubt you could save money by taking it in Romania, I imagine the travel costs alone would more than wipe out any minor saving.

As for buying a Ural, I imagine the cost of the fuel used to ride it back would be enormous, it would break down all the time, I doubt you could sell it for any more here than you could buy it there, and quite possibly it would be worth less here than there. Certainly if there was any profit in it, somebody would be importing them by the trailerload.

When I worked for Kepstowe, one of the Moscow office lads bought a Ural with sidecar, brand new for £650 (it would not be anywhere as cheap now). He sent it back in one of the homebound trucks. But when he got it here, DVLA would not register it because the sidecar was on the wrong side. Worse, he couldn’t just take the sidecar off because it had been designed as a motorcycle and sidecar, and the saddle was not directly above the wheels but about six inches offset.

He did eventually get it registered, but only after serious modification.

pure class that statement

To be honest, I think the best person to give sound advice here is limeyphil

£800 for class C inc test fee, got to be less than the cost of staying with the Romanies for six months and buying a east european bike…never mind the course will be in Romanian and you will have to pay for it.
Have you tried backing up one of those pretty little caravans when the horse is in a bad mood ? (have a go before you sign up) One of those though would be very cool for the surfing ‘hanging out’ scene and the engine runs on like grass man

When was the sixties anyway?

I think this is L.P. under a pseudonym. :stuck_out_tongue:

there is a bloke at the kirkham test centre, he dances at funny girls on a saturday night. his name is stacy, or it could be stan.
if you are any good at giving head, he will sort your licence out.
you appear to be a bit of a druggy, so you’ll be ok.
he is too.

Well, cheers guys!
Lots of info to go on there…

I would have thought I could swap a fine bottle of scotch for a C class in romania! Nevermind.
Its not just about the cost/time issue, Id rather spend 6 months in europe having a leisurely time and get my license, than stay in the UK to rush my ■■■■■■■■ off to get my license.

A Ural 4320 is not a bike, its a massive truck. You can pick em up in mint condition for about 4000-5000 Euros in Ukraine, in the UK they fetch around 12000 pounds

Limeyphil: Is that how you got your license, shame you cant remember his name, were you too mashed on K, or was it the ■■■■ in your mouth making you forget?! :stuck_out_tongue:
