Following on from rumours I was hearing at the beginning of the week it now looks like AR Lunn of Hull are to cease trading, leading to up to 150 redundancies. Another established firm who can’t cope with the poor economic situation. When will the government listen to the haulage industry?!
If the work doesn’t pay, don’t do it. It’s not rocket science.
Speaking to drivers from the firm, they confirm they are now out of work.
Seems a shame cos he might have been a bandit, but was no worse than most of them out there.
Good luck to the drivers, and I for one would not mind seeing Andrew Lunn back in business.

So whilst I feel sorry for all involved, what the job needs is a few to go to the wall, just like lunns,then the remaining survivors will start to benefit.

To be honest, it’s their own fault for running around for crap rates, if he halved or quartered the fleet before it came to this point and only did the decent work, they’d still be in business.
It’s totally ridiculous what some of these firms try & run on with regard to margins & the big company’s that use them are rubbing their hands in glee at the muppets queing up to do it.

Turns out the bank (Yorkshire Bank), called in the overdraft which by all accounts was substantial.
Sad times for all the staff involved.

Whatever the reason for their collapse, whether it be crap rates, diesel price, loss of contract etc it won’t make the news any easier on the 150 staff to be made redundant. Too many people on here criticise people for running around on crap rates but all the rates are screwed right down to the last penny at the moment so in alot of cases you have to take what’s offered just to keep yourself in work, unless you specialise in a particular area of haulage and can pretty much name your price.

No tin hat needed, there are simply too many lorries chasing too little profitable work
i drove for lunns it wasnt a bad job good office staff and some good lads drivein for them the container busineess is crap to many hauliers cuttin rates i can name 2 scottish hauliers based at grangemouth who have slashhed the rates out of teesport for 2xl and ecs just to get the work when they done this lunns work out of tees vertually dried up and so did most of other tees based hauliers who worked for these companyies

Should have made the cost cuttings before relaying on the banks. They probably couldn’t afford to loose what income they made in the end by slashing the fleet.

Should never try to run a business on the banks dime, an overdraft can be dipped in to briefly & I do mean briefly now and again as a stop gap for money coming in, the banks can withdraw the facility at any time. Many haulage firms seem not to realise this.
well this morning i followed one of A R Lunns off the dock at teesport with an ECS box on so they must still be doing something
and then this afternoon i followed the latest reincarnation of Bulmers leaving the dock, also with an ECS box on, looks like they must have went on the road at the beginning of March
